The Trump Administration Is Arguing It Can Hold Dreamers Indefinitely

Excerpt: "According to a tracker launched by a coalition of immigration organizations, including the National Immigration Law Center and United We Dream, nearly 20 #DACA recipients have been detained within the last year.
" 'We’re really concerned,' said Juliana Macedo do Nascimento, deputy director of federal policy for the immigrant advocacy organization, #UnitedWeDream.
"Macedo do Nascimento said that the #Trump administration appears to be intentionally going after DACA recipients, who should not ordinarily be targets for #deportation." 'There are two cases right now, that we’re aware of, Jean Carlos and [Paulo Cesar Gamez Lira], where ICE showed up to in Paulo’s case, to his mother’s house while he was dropping off his kids, specifically to apprehend him, and then in Jean Carlos’s case, to his own house specifically to detain him,' she said. 'So that shows that de-prioritization is not happening anymore.'
"They’re trying to 'kill DACA by 1,000 cuts,' said Macedo do Nascimento, noting that the administration has been urging Dreamers to 'self-deport.' "

Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren said in a Jan. 24 news release that his 'office has received multiple reports from Navajo citizens that they have had negative, and sometimes traumatizing, experiences with federal agents targeting undocumented immigrants in the Southwest.'

"A family member is speaking out against an #ICE operation in northwest Phoenix on Sunday, calling it an unnecessary use of force that involved an armored vehicle, flash bang grenades and several dozen ICE agents and police dressed in military-style gear to arrest a single person, a 61-year-old man in poor health.
"Sunday's arrest in Phoenix took place amid President Donald Trump's nationwide immigration crackdown launched just over two weeks ago on Trump's first day in office.
"Videos of the ICE operation show an armored vehicle equipped with a long #BatteringRam rolling through a residential neighborhood in daylight and then pulling up in front of a home as unmarked vehicles with sirens sounding and lights flashing zoom in and block off streets.
"As the battering ram lowers there is a sudden flash and explosion in front of the home followed by the voice of an officer over a police loudspeaker who says, 'This is the police with a warrant. Exit the residence immediately with your hands empty and above your head.' A second flash and explosion can be heard as the officer speaks.
"The videos were shared by #Marco =Garcia, the son of the man arrested; immigrant activist #NatallyCruz, director of #PuenteArizona; and others on social media."

Refugees and other migrants were already dying crossing via Roxham Road because the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA) and other immigration laws made it impossible to travel safely.
Now, with STCA expanded, both the US and Canada have legislated a policy of turning away migrants. Any refugee crossing over will be able to be deported without due process within the first 14 days of arrival.
This will force refugees to take even more dangerous routes and cause even more suffering and death.
Prime Minister Trudeau says Canada welcomes migrants, even as he is slamming the door shut and putting migrants in danger.
