  1. I think it's time for a #reintroduction post. I've been on Mastodon since 2024 and hanging out at The Mended Drum for over a year, and I'm doing a bit of remodeling on my feed. I'd love to make some new friends, and I would also appreciate any hashtag recommendations to follow!

I'm a cis woman of the Oregon Trail Generation living in #Raleigh, #NC, US. Currently a freelance proofreader specializing in deposition transcripts. I'm (lazy) #plantbased, unattached, #nonreligious, sober-ish, and #childfree.

Likes: #reading, #concerts, #animals (especially #cats), #photography, glamping, dragons, spreadsheets, pockets, bubbles, word games/puzzles, #solarpunk, #sustainability, a little light yoga, and the Oxford comma.

Dislikes: patriarchy, bigotry, billionaires, cars, fossil fuels, ads, #misophonia, #perimenopause, summer, basketball (see: misophonia), cooking, running, clothes shopping, phone calls, and glitter.

I'll expound on some of my favorite authors, artists, genres, and titles in a thread.

  2. The rapid, unprecedented growth of the "nones" continues apace.

The nonreligious are now larger than any single religious group in America, including evangelicals and Catholics. What's more, they've become an outright majority in multiple states:

  3. More #Americans are #nonreligious.

New report focuses on the fastest growing segment of #religion or (#nonreligion) in decades who may reflect the front line of future #spirituality.

Over the past ½ century, the amt of Americans w/no #religious affiliation has gone from 5% to ~30%. A report released Wed on the “nones” finds that they are diverse, young, left-leaning & may offer clues to the future of making #meaning in a secularizing country.

The #FreedomofThought Report is a unique, annual, worldwide survey of #discrimination and #persecution against #humanists, #atheists, and the #nonreligious.
Now in its 12th edition, the Report serves as a vital tool for local and international #activists to lobby #governments for change, providing the evidence needed to make reliable and #authoritative claims.

  5. On August 12th, the Robert Green #Ingersoll Birthplace Museum will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary with the Center for nquiry and the Council for Secular Humanism. Honor the Great #Agnostic and learn more right here: bit.ly/rgi30

  6. New paper accepted this week at Sociology of Religion! The #nonreligious are #voting more than classic theories in sociology & political science would expect.

  7. #Humanist #weddings are #nonreligious and performed by a humanist #celebrant. Within the #UK, they are only fully recognised in #Scotland, #NorthernIreland, #Jersey and #Guernsey.

They can be done in England and Wales but require additional steps not required of any other marriage.

  8. Hi again, Mastodon! I'm on a new server, so here's a new #intro.

I'm Adam Lee, an author and activist living in NYC. I'm a columnist for OnlySky Media, a news site by and for America's growing #atheist, #secular and #nonreligious population. As a group, nonbelievers are diverse and overwhelmingly progressive, but because we're not organized like churches are, our perspective is often overlooked. OnlySky exists to give this community a voice.

The stuff I like to write about includes progressive politics, humanist philosophy, secular morality, cool science, hopeful news on climate change, the revolutionary power of optimism, and utopian dreams of a better world. If this appeals to you, I hope you'll follow me here!

  9. When was the Church of England takeover of BBC Radio 2. Zoe Ball seemed to have thought for the day one morning last week (Thur/Fri) and this Sunday morning after 7, it jolly vicar Rev Kate Buckley… I keep having to turn it off #humanist #Secular #nonreligious
