Since the weather has been so cool and wil be that way for another week or so. Put down more clover seed in bare spots in the front yard.

The existing patches are doing really well, mixing in with the turf. Excited to see more.

I haven't seen much about how people realitically go with 'lawn replacement' mid-longer term, let alone in brisbane so...

Note we've had plenty of rain and generally let plants fight it out for dominance. This area never really had lawn. 3 years ago there was a freestanding (trip hazard) deck, concrete tiles, astroturf and and a sickly tree.

Terzo (?) anno di sperimentazione #NoLawn, stavolta sono contento di avere realizzato un'isola, elemento di architettura del giardino elaborato da me, ovvero un'area circoscritta di erba alta intorno ad aree di erba bassa (dove per bassa si intende comunque la regolazione più alta del tosaerba) con contorni naturali.
Per chi non ricordasse le stagioni precedenti, l'idea è superare il giardino tosato basso per non ostacolare la vita dell'ecosistema, ma anche avere un giardino accessibile e bello.

Anche quest'anno da primavera in poi solo tosatura alta con modalità #mulching e zero irrigazione, stavolta però ha piovuto abbastanza e le aree di secco sono poche e rade, situazione che ha permesso di avere isole di erba alta più uniformi con mentuccia selvatica in fiore e una bella attività di insetti impollinatori e non.

I feel your frustration,
I wish the #nativeplants community would offer opinionated solutions for civilians who want to convert to #nolawn .

I dearly wanted to #rewild our 1/2 acre lawn and gave up after a year of research and a $60k quote from a landscape architect.

The closest I could find to DIY instructions is the recent book Prairie Up and some sub Reddits (which I dropped post enshittification).

The insanity of lawns still boggles my mind every summer.

Mowing down the pretty flowers that are just growing there on their own, because that's the goddamn lawn and only grass is allowed there (but only this tall and no filthy flowering allowed).

While also buying seeds, fertilizer and spending time weeding and pampering those pretty flowers over there in the planter.

Volunteer cucumber vine! Weve been trying to do the no-mow grass alternative thing in this little courtyard area. Must have dropped a seed.

Nb: that verdant green isn't normal, we've just been having lots of regular rain for a month or so. Unfortunately means there's a bit too much life in it - so many cane toads.

Nbb: if anyone cares about the groundcovers: Dichondra repens, Blue commelina (native), white clover, some sort of not-clover, Cyperus gracilis.

@afg You might have cut it too short.

We cut our lawn short during the cooler, rainier seasons (spring and autumn in #philly ). It grows back quickly and gives us more clippings to put in the compost.

During hotter, drier months, we let keep it at about 3.5 inches (7.8 cm). That protects the roots from the heat and keeps the ground a more steady temperature.

Even better, we're removing lawn and planting natives. #nolawn #compost
