Here’s day 7 of my trip to #Scotland #Skye #OuterHebrides, it’s time to cover some ground in order to be home tomorrow. Land travel takes more time than flying but it’s also much and much more rewarding #staygrounded #noflying ⛴️🚞🚄🚌 first leg is the ferry back from #Tarbert #Harris to #Uig on #Skye.

Sooo you are probably all wondering how I am going to get to the @dariaheu Annual Event after all. The alternative is: either 48 hours and 6 different trains between Irun and Lisbon or 15 hours of a direct bus between Bordeaux and Lisbon. So, bus it is. And yes, I am car sick, it's not going to be much fun. But making points is seldom fun, alas. #noflying

- Don't do "projects"! There's a better mindset, do "products"!
That was my message at the #projectmanagement conference!
Torres' book and daily short videos go in that direction: how to get your organisation to think better about discovering and delivering IT products.
Talk with the users often. Validate your assumptions, before coding anything. Find the opportunities.

Last TGV made it to Brussels on time, no incidents.
This closes the trip at almost 15 hours. I think I have a better face now than in the morning!

It's my turn for a #CrossBorderRail and #noflying adventure. I'm going from Parma to Brussels to speak at a project management conference.
My route is Parma - Milan - Brig - Basel - Strasbourg - Brussels. 5 trains, 4 countries, plenty of possibilities that the trip takes an unexpected turn :)
First one is on time at 6:10. Let's do this!

... just a small #noflying trip today, hopefully allowing me to check the condition of the #viarhona from #Valence northwards. Weather report says I should not even try, but at least here in our valley of the #Diois, it looks a little more promising. TER to Valence nearly on time and with plenty of room for bicycles.

Final leg of the journey was quite spectacular. We took the Stubaitalbahn tram from Innsbruck 🇦🇹 main station all the way into the mountains. Journey took an hour and I was looking out of the window the whole time! We shared the tram with a group of children coming home - what a commute to school they have! We then had a tiring 20 minute slog dragging our cases up the final bit of mountain. And we’ve arrived! Tomorrow my daughter and I start ski school. #NoFlying #SlowTravel

Finally just over 24 hours after leaving home, we cross the border to Austrian and not long after we’ve arrived in Innsbruck🇦🇹! Our journey is not quite finished, as we’re heading into the mountains for some skiing but we have a few hours to explore the city first #NoFlying #SlowTravel

Woke up in Munich 🇩🇪! We’re about an hour behind schedule but overall a fairly comfortable journey. The movement of the train through the night is quite strange but I think it helped daughter to a very sound sleep! Breakfast is now served (included in the ticket). Simple but tasty, if a little awkward to eat as you can’t really sit upright in the bunks #NoFlying #SlowTravel

We boarded the NightJet 40 minutes late. It’s been a strange experience so far! We have a sleeper cabin for three and the word compact doesn’t do if justice! It was a challenge just getting our stuff in but once we’d figured it out it’s well designed with the bunks one on top of the other. Initially the cabin is set up with seats and we had to wait a little while for the attendant to come around to convert it to beds. Family are asleep now and we’ve made it to Cologne 🇩🇪 #NoFlying #SlowTravel

Arrived at Utrecht 🇳🇱 where we will catch the overnight sleeper to Innsbruck 🇦🇹 later this evening. We may have ended up with a bit too much time to kill before then, especially burdened with our luggage but before we worry about that we’re heading for some Vietnamese street food #NoFlying #SlowTravel
