Thanks to friends, neighbors, communities and volunteer marshals, we had a safe and fun March Against the Casino and Public Hearing!

Our Queens reps backed a casino at Citi Field, but they still don’t have a license. We need to keep up pressure so the state doesn’t grant one.

What can you do?

IT'S HERE! TODAY!

Our reps sold us out and tried to silence us. Online trolls threatened us. But we will not be silenced or intimidated. We will stand up for Queens, our neighborhoods, our communities, our friends and elders and children.

MARCH AGAINST THE CITI FIELD CASINO
starting at 1pm at Corona Plaza
marching to the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Corona Park for a People's Hearing on the casino

Anonymous trolls threatened violence against the family-friendly March Against the Casino.

It's been reported, so there may be more police, and also safety + deescalation support. Please do what feels safe for you.

But we won’t be intimidated. This march will be peaceful: full of music, bubbles, kids, and joy. Not a place for hate; a place for community power.

🚶‍♀️ Sunday Oct 5 · 1 PM
📍 Start: Corona Plaza → end at the Unisphere for a people’s hearing at 2:30 PM

Come stand against Steve Cohen’s casino.

Our Queens reps backed a Citi Field casino — but no license yet. Let’s keep the pressure on so the state denies it.

🚫🎰 NO CASINO IN OUR COMMUNITY! 🎰🚫

This Sunday, neighbors from Flushing, Corona, Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst and beyond are coming together to say LOUD AND CLEAR:

Public land is for the PEOPLE — not for billionaire casinos.

We refuse to gamble away our:

✅ Parks
✅ Housing
✅ Transit access
✅ Local small businesses
✅ Future

A casino will not bring “opportunity.” It will bring traffic, addiction, displacement, and harm to working-class immigrant neighborhoods that already carry more than our share.

📢 Join us in the streets!

Jackson Heights Indivisible as part of the FED-UP Coalition has been fighting against the Citi Field casino proposal all year. With the public hearings over, we're gearing up for...

🥁MARCH AGAINST THE CASINO🥁
📆 Sunday, October 5th
⏰ 1 PM
📍 Meet at Corona Plaza…
🌐 March to Flushing Meadows Corona Park Unisphere for THE PEOPLE’S PUBLIC HEARING!

This month our neighbors were cheated out of their chance to speak against the Citi Field casino proposal. At two public hearings, lines were filled up with paid supporters, Hard Rock staff, and politicians while opposers were forced to wait. They ran out the clock so neighbors who wanted to object never got a turn. And when opposers called out this orchestration, they were threatened or thrown out under the fallacy of ‘disrespect’.

Join us to have your voice heard!

The Mets owner, billionaire Steve Cohen is outspending and buying up the sellouts. TODAY is the day to Demand that State leaders STOP ROLLING THE DICE on the future of Queens, on PUBLIC #PARKLAND at #FlushingMeadowsCoronaPark.

Please call the Chair of the Cities Committee, Senator Luis Sepúlveda TODAY!
Albany Office: (518) 455-2511
District Office: (718) 991-3161

And email him, his Chief of Staff, Ms. Reyes, and his Community Affairs Liaison, Mr. Cardus: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

Don't let Senator Liu's parkland alienation bill out of committee or into the budget!

This is our borough and our futures, nos tienen que respetar!

Senator Jessica Ramos has been standing up against these predatory schemers and opposes this "Metropolitan Park" proposal - member deference must be respected.

#BadBetForQueens #NoCasino #ParklandIsPublic

It also looks like Mayor Eric Adams' administration has been helping Cohen's team draft legislation for the casino's redevelopment of City-owned land.

Sellout.

I wish this article wasn't paywalled, or that HellGate did gift articles. This one is important:

https://hellgatenyc.com/steve-cohen-casino-bid-parking-documents/

Steve Cohen's Metropolitan Park proposal for the Citi Field parking lot includes a casino, hotel, and 13,750 parking spaces—nearly double the current amount.

So much for "Let's turn a parking lot into a park."

#NYC #Queens #NoCasino

Watching the livestream of the Queens Borough President Land Use Public Hearing today regarding some zoning changes to allow Steve Cohen to build a casino on what is currently public parkland (the parking lot at Citi Field). The project backers keep referring to "righting the wrongs of Robert Moses" by building a casino. WTAF.

So gross. The Community Board chairperson is shilling for Queens Future, and playing favorites with people asking questions and giving testimonials.

#NYC #Queens #NoCasino #CommunityBoard3

I'm so sad and frustrated that so many people in my community have fallen for the lie that we cannot have nice things except when they are granted to us by the wealthy in return for aquiesance.

#NYC #Queens #NoCasino

Don't fall for the #okiedoke . For a scam to be successful, it relies on either the greed and/or desperation of the victim/mark. We have the desperation of thousands of citizens looking for a way to better their #economicconditions in this city as well as the greed of the few who think that today is the day they will strike it rich. Neither will find what they are looking for in this venture.
