  1. Starting to think we should specify in our #introduction posts whether we prefer fave or boost. Some folks need the visibility of a boost for professional or other reasons. Some would rather avoid it, but don't want to lock down their account.

Me, I don't care which you do. I'm just happy we're both here and we see each other. #nobirb

  5. Friendly dude over on Twitter trying to tell me why I should have my own site and I'm trying hard not to be all "do not cite the old magic at me" cause he's just doing a healthy self-marketing thing

I did mention my drinking-age blog though. So I guess I kinda did the "I was there when it was written" thing after all #nobirb

  9. The Local timeline has never been more lovely to me than these last couple weeks. I got too enthusiastic with the new follows, and the main feed's a bit much. I could turn off boosts, but what if I miss a great account to follow?

(only applicable if your host instance has fewer accounts than the number of accounts you follow)

Note to self and others. When you're replying to a thread, the other handles are right there. Decide if they all need or want to be in on your part of the conversation. If not, just backspace them out. No extra clicks needed. Like how Twitter used to be. #nobirb

  17. If someone you know is looking at cohost, have them read this Twitter thread first. People — including me, alas — looking more at cohost's cute UX and can-do attitude than its TOS.

Sharing here because I know some are already going #nobirb as they look for new homes.

  21. CW: Mobility issues, PT

Brady is out of town for the weekend (in NJ to play games with his nerd friends), and managing the dogs by myself is proving to be challenging. :(

Doc said the swelling and pain may last up to a year from the sprain, and unfortunately the PT is aggravating it. I know it's important to do, as my mobility on my sprained ankle is only about half as good as the other one, but it makes it very sore for several hours afterwards.

The new dog is still in the process of being trained so she still pulls *really* freaking hard, and nearly yanks me down the stairs on the way out. She's making great progress, but some things are more challenging than others.

She's getting much better at controlling her barking (very food motivated, which helps a ton.) I can get her to *stop* now (mostly), but we're not at the point where she can just *not* bark. She's got "sit" and "wait" down, but once I give her the "okay" to release her, she's like a bullet down the stairs.

She's smart and is a quick learner, so I'm hopeful. We haven't had her long.

Hi! I'm snipe (aka snipeyhead on :birdsite:). I created #snipeit, an open source IT Asset Management system written in #laravel, and I run a company called Grokability. Been in tech for over 20 years and have co-written a few books, the latest of which is #ReinventingCybersecurity, which you can download for free here: try.jupiterone.com/blog/book-r

I speak at conferences about #AppSec and other things.

  38. Just realized a bonus of moving my workspace up to a shared office with @IamMrsGeek

I can give her naked hand puppet shows over the privacy screen while she's in a meeting.

(the hands are naked not me; ALTHOUGH)

  39. CW: US politics, Trump, Hacker X, "reformed hacker confessions"

So I read this and have thoughts, none of them charitable.

Though I do appreciate the author's use of "we can't name the company he worked for. BTW here's a super clear picture of their lobby, what they did, and a few of the headlines they're known for."

  41. Sharing a tweet because I'm taking part.

Because a friend said "I want a reading party but I don't want to organize it" I organized a reading party of Twelfth Night!

Tomorrow (24/04) starting around 7:30PM Pacific time. Come and watch us stumble through it, and heckle us silently in the chat!

    — Marjane Satrapi

BTW I highly recommend "Persepolis" for your graphic novel reading.

  51. It's a good day to touch up my #introduction.

    • stock model white cis male 40-something #FOSS-friendly geek in Seattle WA USA
    • I write code (mostly #python right now) for work.
    • Non-code hobbies include #drawing and #knitting
    • Otherwise, I am a crow: enthusiastic, sometimes noisy, drawn to shiny objects and junk food
    • I have more words and pics at randomgeekery.org/
    • There is no intended theme, brand, or purpose to my toots. Just what's on my brain that moment.

    disclaimers:

    • I'm not as good about content warnings as I could be, especially for food/beverage/eye contact pics
    • my public toots and replies-to-self forward to Twitter unless tagged #nobirb - not boosts or replies to other threads though.
  52. Hello new people
