Born in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, he was a physicist and Nobel laureate for his work with John Cockcroft with “atom-smashing” experiments done at Cambridge University in the early 1930s, and so became the first person in history to artificially split the atom.

  4. I understand that it’s an open forum, and if it’s open for credited journalist/scicomms, then why are we seeing ppl w/o credentials, distract and confuse viewers from around the globe watching by questioning the awards and the and the respectively awarded sciences applications?

    I guess what I am trying to say is that their questions unrelated to these awards could have waited till after the announcements.
