    #NoBarbenheimer is trending in Japan

    I understand that this "Barbenheimer" thing is for commercial use, but some of the memes are indeed downright offensive to the Japanese relatives of the victims including my ancestors. Oppenheimer showed eternal guilt in the movie, so he really wouldn't like the mushroom cloud to be used for memes. It became a symbol of victory for the West, but horror to Japan. Now imagine if they promote a Holocaust film with Nazi memes. I hope we can learn from his guilt.

    Just to add another English-speaking voice to the #NoBarbenheimer tag:

    The Empire of Japan did heinous, horrible things
    The US dropping atomic bombs was egregious, unnecessary, and despicable

    Both can be held accountable without the whataboutism
    Don't make atrocities into memes

    The anniversaries of the bomb drops is coming up in a few days

    The Japanese children riding their bicycles to school did not deserve to be melted
    The Zainichi Koreans going to work did not deserve to burn to death
    The victims of the black rain did not deserve 78+ years of cancer

    I know the world is In a Bad Way, and folks' bandwidths are limited

    But it doesn't take a lot to not make a joke at peoples' expense

    Don't make atrocities into memes

    And if you do have some bandwidth to spare,
    Spare a thought for the people this week
    because they were people
    Please choose kindness

    Summer to remember that to the Barbie film team and to Hollywood more than 200,000 death by the end of 1945 (and half a million so far) by two atrocious bombs are something they feel comfortable joking about to promote their precious summer blockbuster.

    I am so, so disappointed. I wasn't hoping the Barbie film to be eye-openingly feminist or anything but was still looking forward to a mostly guilt-free fun time watching it. I surely didn't expect this.
