In contrast, Democratic candidates for governor this year were required to submit at least 2,505 signatures to preliminarily qualify for the primary ballot, while Republicans were required to file at least 2,351 valid signatures — or 2% of the votes cast in their party's last gubernatorial primary.”

Yesterday was the first day of early voting for the 2026 primary. See first graphic. 134 ballots were cast.
We need some historical context. See the second graphic...early voting two years ago in the 2024 primary race...which was a presidential-year election cycle. 89 ballots were cast.
50% greater turnout on day one...and 2026 is a mid-term year?!
This is a significant indicator of a more active, engaged electorate!

Not going to lie, it's stories like this that make me scratch my head. This kid has been "referred" to the Juvenile Justice System 7 times already and the Judge released the kid while he awaits trial for an armed carjacking that resulted in one of the victims getting shot and wounded, and the kids' accomplice getting shot and killed.
Kids in and around Albuquerque know they can literally get away with murder because the Courts will simply let them go, free to car jack yet another person, or kill someone.
