Excellent news: Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed New Mexico's "Second Chance" bill into law last night, prohibiting life sentences without a possibility of parole for people convicted as juveniles. #nmleg
It allows them, after serving required lengths of time based on their convictions, the right to make a case for parole. An important step for sentencing reform.

Today the NM legislature passed a bill prohibiting life without the possibility of parole for children. #nmleg
One thing unaddressed by most of the coverage is that some are sentenced for “felony murder” because someone died during the course of a different felony. I wrote about such a case last year.

The bill would shield all but finalists for executive gov jobs from disclosure, creating cover for bad selection practices and suppressing valuable news reporting.
