23h28 le 17 juillet 2020, second coup double comète Neowise + nuages noctulescents de la semaine après celui du 11 juillet 2020 à Gouézec.
J'étais à la pointe de Talargrip au fond de la baie de Douarnenez.Cet été 2026 n'a pas encore été très riche en nlc captés (relativement timides le 28 juin, uniquement) et la saison tire à sa fin... Dommage, mon nouveau matériel mieux adapté aux photos de nuit servira, j'espère, pour les Perséides...

Some nice structures and shapes. Particularly pleased with the roll of low cloud/mist along the A85 through Strathearn in the distance.
Your regular reminder that these brilliant electric-blue clouds are increasingly visible due to increasing methane/water vapour/ozone interactions in the upper atmosphere.

A decent noctilucent cloud display at 02:00UT this (July 08) morning. As seen from Anglesey. Apparent elevation 35 degrees, spanning about 130 degrees in azimuth. Brightness of 4 (of 5). About a month of the season left now.

Hey, #Mars is back in the sky, kind of: during this dawn's #NLC observations - https://scicomm.xyz/@cosmos4u/116856704538285809 - I also scanned for the planet underneath the #Pleiades and got it photographically (1 second at f/2.8 and ISO 800) but couldn't see either object naked-eye.

Last night, there was a fine display of noctilucent clouds (NLC), seen here from Wedemark, north of Hannover, Germany. NLC are highest clouds on our beautiful home planet.
They are at a height of about 82 km, almost at the edge of space, and consist of tiny ice crystals. They can only be seen during our summer months, around midnight, toward the northern horizon. And if you ask me, they are just beautiful.
We may see them again in the coming weeks.

Gestern Abend gab es Leuchtende Nachtwolken, die höchsten Wolken unseres schönen Heimatplaneten.
Sie stehen rund 82 km hoch, also fast an der Grenze zum Weltraum, bestehen aus winzigen Eiskristallen, sind nur in unseren Sommermonaten in den Stunden um Mitternacht Richtung Nordhorizont zu sehen und sind einfach sehr schön.
In den kommenden Wochen kann es die immer wieder geben.

NLCs, aka polar mesospheric clouds, are sporadically visible when water ice particles are illuminated by the Sun when it is several degrees below the horizon.
The first display of summer 2026 I've seen so far. Quite a decent display with lots of structure and shapes in the clouds. Still electrifying.

J'ai capté des nuages noctulescents entre 23h42 et 0h18 la nuit dernière pour la première fois de 2026, et je croise les doigts pour que ça continue avec des nuages, plus bas en latitude, et par conséquent perçus plus haut dans le ciel :)

26 juin 2021,5h03 : Felfie, le #fantôme toujours prompt** à m'aider, tente d'éclairer davantage les rares nuages #noctulescents* de ce matin-là… mais je ne suis pas certain que le faisceau de sa torche soit encore efficace à 80 km d'altitude et sûrement encore plus en latitude et longitude.

A reminder that, in late May, the N hemisphere noctilucent cloud season starts again.
Best time throughout the season is from local midnight towards dawn, looking N-NE, typically around 15 degrees above a clear horizon, but sometimes much higher.
Deep twilight evening displays, (N/NW) are common, but a cold atmospheric tide means they are more likely in the post-midnight period. Not visible at day.
The season closes early-mid August. Climate may be extending the season.

At the National League of Cities’ annual conference in Salt Lake City, I took part in a panel discussion on extreme heat and what we can do to design cities for a more resilient future. ICLEI USA moderator Jess Grannis encouraged Salt Lake City mayor Erin Mendenhall; Moab, UT, mayor Joette Langianese; and Portland, OR, councilor Candace Avalos to share thoughtful strategies on mitigating climate change for all residents. I had a few things to say too.
