#TIL the #NittyGrittyDirtBand had two #accordion players scattering work through their discography!
More research is necessary https://countrydiscoghraphy2.blogspot.com/2016/11/nitty-gritty-dirt-band-dirt-band.html
Their founder banjo 🪕 — and apparently accordion 🪗 player — John McEuen has a Contact page on his website I might have to hit up for an interview

"Mr. Bojangles" is a song written and originally recorded by American country music artist #JerryJeffWalker for his 1968 album of the same title. It has since been recorded by other artists, including the #NittyGrittyDirtBand in 1969 whose version hit number 9 on the Hot 100 in November 1970.

Songs about the homeless: A Call for Compassion — Friday Favorite Feature 45
"Homeless," by Ylli Haruni Not sure how I came up with the idea for a playlist on homelessness. Oh, yes, I do. After hearing Johnny Flynn’s song, “The Box.” He was the seed from which the playlist grew. Homelessness is real. It’s in your face every time you go out into a city street or travel through a neighborhood. Corporations are buying up homes, houses, apartments, vacant lots, and building dwellings that nobody who works for minimum wage will ever be able to afford. They jack […] -

As randomly chosen by survey on Mastodon, our next spotlight is on number 997 on The List, submitted by dwenius. (The survey choices given were “My”, “Empire”, “Of”, and “Dirt”, following the earlier survey with “You”, “Could Have”, “It”, “All”; as the winning selection,”Dirt”, was the last choice and only 2 albums in The List have “dirt” in the title, the survey result was translated as picking the last one.)
Want 2 hours of ol’ timey, finger pickin’ country folk, bluegrass, and gospel classics such as “Keep on the Sunny Side” and “I Saw the Light”? Well, here you are. This double album features a ton of collaborations with people such as Mother Maybelle Carter (i.e., June Carter Cash’s mother), Doc Watson, and Merle Travis. The album was so successful that the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band tried it two more times – Volume II (1989) features the likes of Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, and John Denver, and Volume III (2002) Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, and Tom Petty. So, if this is your sort of thing, I think your listening is sorted for a while.
Before you listen, make sure your harmonica or washboard is nearby.

Note on the image included: As you may notice after clicking on the above links, the image included here is not the front cover of the album, but is instead the back cover. I don’t wish to censor the art of any of the albums on The List, but the front cover has images of the Confederate flag, which of course today is recognized as a hate symbol. Given the time the album was released, the musical content of the album (which, as far as I know, isn’t itself problematic), and the presence of Union flags (as well as a photo of a Union soldier) on the front cover, presumably the point of the cover was not to promote hate symbols in any way. So, since there is no ability to add content warnings or sensitive image filters on the WordPress side to show up with the automatic cross-posting on the Mastodon side, I have chosen instead to provide alternate art, to keep the problematic images out of your timeline.

Just got back from a week and a half vacation with my wife. We drove to Santa Fe and Durango. Saw the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, visited a handful of museums, churches and art galleries, took a train and explored Mesa Verde. We also ate a lot of good food! #SantaFe #Durango #NittyGrittyDirtBand #MesaVerde

"Colorado Christmas" by #NittyGrittyDirtBand. One of my favs.
I can hear the traffic on the crowded strip below,
As the palm trees poke their heads above the scene,
But there's not a single reindeer and it hardly ever snows,
And Santa drives a Rolls Royce limousine,
But all along the Rockies you can feel it in the air,
From Telluride to Boulder down below,
The closest thing to Heaven on this planet anywhere,
Is a quiet Christmas morning in the #Colorado snow

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Show is tonight!
I've rarely missed seeing Bob Dylan live since 2002, but he didn't tour near here this year. Luckily, the Dirt Band just released a Dylan covers album, Dirt Does Dylan, so this is my way of keeping the tradition alive.
A local singer-songwriter whose work I really love, Megan Bee, is the opening act (on her birthday!) and it's so cool to see a local favorite support a long established act like this.
