No option to use Apple Pay, frankly I’m surprised they don’t want a cheque.

It’s somehow symptomatic of NI. Public services are awful, their software crap, but it’s keeping some civil servants in a job, dragging out their miserable days until they collect their fat pension.

  2. Getting an NI car ready for MoT 1/2

    1. Buy new wiper blades online. Site checks reg, confirms they’ll fit, pay with Apple Pay. I’ve already had a text to say they’re ready for collection.

    2. Book MoT test.
First available date October. Take it, I know they’ll give me one sooner.
Pay? They already know name and address, but have to fill them in again. Have to select country from an alphabetical list, UK/NI isn’t at the top. I’m doing this on a touchscreen…

  3. #JeffreyDonaldson may have fallen from the attention of the GB media, who after all have proper English politics to talk about, but NI media are on the job.

Just listened to a couple of interesting episodes of Radio Ulster’s Talkback.

The Spotlight documentary will have to wait till later.

  4. ...because, if there was one thing Northern Ireland was famous for, it was a lack of violence.

  6. People are done with the same old parties.
5% is our highest Lucid Talk polling ever.

And we’re only getting started. 💚

  7. 🚨 Since February last year most parties have been stagnant or in decline… but not the Greens!

While the Stormont shambles stumbles on, Northern Ireland is waking up. The old parties are falling as we’re rising.

This is what hope looks like. 💚

  8. No human being is illegal. People seeking safety deserve dignity and due process - whatever their paperwork says.

We will always stand for human dignity over fear-mongering. ✊

No human is illegal - just 0.14% of NI are asylum seekers, yet they’re scapegoated while real issues fester. Join the Greens for dignity & human rights for all: greenpartyni.org/join.

Much of Ballymena is still run by gangsters. The well-off residents of the Bible Belt will look the other way and keep their heads down, and still vote for the politicians who give tacit support to gangster rule.

  10. ‘Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, decision-making was "chaotic" and affected by “political machinations”’

It’s a quote from the Covid Inquiry, but could be applied to anything to do with NI government.

  11. We teach democracy at school but lock young people out at the ballot box. Time for change? What do you think?

  12. Surely, if the veterans didn't break the law, then they have nothing to fear? Isn't that the usual argument?

Fighting to prevent justice is an odd hill to die on.

  13. A pity. Beattie struck me as a decent man, a man who wanted a pragmatic and constructive unionism, one in which people not of a traditionally unionist background could also feel at home.

I don't know if that's achievable. I do know that, if I wanted to preserve the Union, I'd be trying to achieve it.

One wonders when people will twig that the TUVification of unionism is a great gift to the shinners.

  14. Thanks to mechanical boat gremlins, I’ve ended up stuck in NI for the Twelfth. I just walked from the marina into town - it’s like they’re expecting a typhoon, or possibly zombies. Most restaurants & takeaways closed and shuttered at 8pm, even the ice cream parlours, supermarket already shut.
Anywhere else, a public holiday is a celebration and businesses stay open late…

Fair play to you Harriett. They need to told and called out for spouting their nonsense.

He will know not to knock on your door again! #NIpolitics #ge2024

  16. Looks like I’ll be up north over the next few weeks, so I’m preparing my questions in case any political candidates mistakenly knock on the door.
I think I’m going to challenge them to give an elevator pitch - 1 minute to try to persuade me.
I want to see if anyone can beat the other year’s DUP canvasser’s ridiculous “vote for x because he really cares”.

  17. "She is a people person, comfortable in all kinds of situations and therefore tailor-made for such a public-facing role. The “First Minister for all” slogan will never convince the most hardline of unionists, but her attendance at a PSNI graduation ceremony, followed by a visit to the Shankill Women’s Centre, have been examples of positive early outreach."

  18. Good to see Robin Swan back as Health Minister. That department needs continuity so they can get going to tackle the problems that the NHS face. #NIPolitics

  19. Amongst the noise that will accompany the events in Northern Ireland today, something historic is about to happen. That is the symbol of the change that has come to Northern Ireland.

I think we have to take a moment to stop and think of were we have come from.

It hasn't been easy, it hasn't been pleasant and is what we have perfect...No. But it is a hell of lot better than what we had pre-1998.

Now it's time for our politicians to make it work properly. This is your last chance. #NIPolitics

  20. It appears that Jeff is turning on Jim for the upcoming General Election, he going after the TUV vote - you can see what the tactics are going to be. #NIPolitics

He is blaming Jeff for taking votes of the DUP, which cost them top spot (First Minister) & one less Unionist seat in the new Executive.

Now we get to see who is right ✅️

  22. @harriettmb

It will be a defining week whatever happens...

We are gonna need lots of popcorn and nerves of steel!

    Let's hope it's another 1998 moment for #NIpolitics

  23. Right...On Sunday Politics it is being reported that families of kids with cancer having to choose between heating/eating or paying for transport to their treatment!

The Secretary of State & Jeffrey Donaldson should hang their heads in shame!
