  1. Slugger O’Toole sees it. 👀
The Greens are on the rise and every % point brings an Assembly seat closer.

    💚 BUT EVERY MEMBER COUNTS
    💚 EVERY DONOR COUNTS

    💚 AND EVERY VOTER COUNTS

  2. People are done with the same old parties.
5% is our highest Lucid Talk polling ever.

And we’re only getting started. 💚

  3. 🚨 Since February last year most parties have been stagnant or in decline… but not the Greens!

While the Stormont shambles stumbles on, Northern Ireland is waking up. The old parties are falling as we’re rising.

This is what hope looks like. 💚

Much of Ballymena is still run by gangsters. The well-off residents of the Bible Belt will look the other way and keep their heads down, and still vote for the politicians who give tacit support to gangster rule.

  10. ‘Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, decision-making was "chaotic" and affected by “political machinations”’

It’s a quote from the Covid Inquiry, but could be applied to anything to do with NI government.

  16. A pity. Beattie struck me as a decent man, a man who wanted a pragmatic and constructive unionism, one in which people not of a traditionally unionist background could also feel at home.

I don't know if that's achievable. I do know that, if I wanted to preserve the Union, I'd be trying to achieve it.

One wonders when people will twig that the TUVification of unionism is a great gift to the shinners.

  21. Thanks to mechanical boat gremlins, I’ve ended up stuck in NI for the Twelfth. I just walked from the marina into town - it’s like they’re expecting a typhoon, or possibly zombies. Most restaurants & takeaways closed and shuttered at 8pm, even the ice cream parlours, supermarket already shut.
Anywhere else, a public holiday is a celebration and businesses stay open late…

  26. @harriettmb

Fair play to you Harriett. They need to told and called out for spouting their nonsense.

  27. Looks like I’ll be up north over the next few weeks, so I’m preparing my questions in case any political candidates mistakenly knock on the door.
I think I’m going to challenge them to give an elevator pitch - 1 minute to try to persuade me.
I want to see if anyone can beat the other year’s DUP canvasser’s ridiculous “vote for x because he really cares”.
    #NIPolitics

  28. Folk of NI, what do you think it would take for the DUP to be the second largest Unionist party?

Even with what has happened this last while I’m sure they’re gonna be largely in the same position next general election.

I get it; I was brought up to believe a vote not for the DUP is a vote for Sinn Fein (any by extension, for bad things) and I know it’s the same for many from unionist backgrounds.

  29. "She is a people person, comfortable in all kinds of situations and therefore tailor-made for such a public-facing role. The “First Minister for all” slogan will never convince the most hardline of unionists, but her attendance at a PSNI graduation ceremony, followed by a visit to the Shankill Women’s Centre, have been examples of positive early outreach."

  31. Amongst the noise that will accompany the events in Northern Ireland today, something historic is about to happen. That is the symbol of the change that has come to Northern Ireland.

I think we have to take a moment to stop and think of were we have come from.

It hasn't been easy, it hasn't been pleasant and is what we have perfect...No. But it is a hell of lot better than what we had pre-1998.

Now it's time for our politicians to make it work properly. This is your last chance. #NIPolitics

  32. It appears that Jeff is turning on Jim for the upcoming General Election, he going after the TUV vote - you can see what the tactics are going to be. #NIPolitics

He is blaming Jeff for taking votes of the DUP, which cost them top spot (First Minister) & one less Unionist seat in the new Executive.

  33. The deal is out #NIpolitics

Now we get to see who is right ✅️

  34. The people protesting for the DUP to reject the deal without knowing the content of the deal do not have NIs best interest at heart.

The DUP need to get back to work and fix immediate local issues.

It will be a defining week whatever happens...

I wonder what she will do if the Executive doesn't come back? Her nice little earner will end if CHH stops their wages. She has one hell of a brass neck.

Emma, shouldn't have tweeted that in the first place. It should have been said privately.

However she doesn't even have the courage to stick by her tweet - she deleted it.

  39. NI friends, is it true that the DUP are considering going back into Stormont, after goodness knows how long a sulk, just because the UK gov has promised to rebrand the Irish Sea Border as “something more patriotic”? Like what, the Fleggy Loyal British Internal UK Market Border?

  40. About time I updated my #introduction after a Mastodon hiatus!

So, hello 👋 I'm a postdoc academic and political analyst based in #NorthernIreland. Currently on maternity leave but still popping up on TV, radio and in print discussing international current affairs, Northern Ireland, and politics in the UK and Ireland.

    My interests/teaching areas include #UKpolitics, #NIpolitics, #devolution, #PowerSharing, #Brexit, #EUlaw and #constitutions.

  41. Yes, Jonathan that is what the real problem is in getting the Unionist voter out! Infighting in #Unionism

How about addressing their real concerns - better educational prospects, job prospects & Improving their lives. That would require you to take your seat & actually work for people. Instead of soundbites that look good on social media! #getbacktowork #NIpolitics

  42. @JohnLoader6 @bioluminescently @harriettmb

It is time for some uncomfortable truths for Unionism - they aren't appealing to the leafy wealthy areas of #NI anymore. Sinn Fein did if you look at where they gained seats last week - eg Balmoral! Plus some Unionists who voted must have given a transfer to them.

So what does that tell them about their current path - Unionism isn't coming out to vote & moderate #Unionists are voting for #Alliance is greater numbers. Why Jeff? #NIpolitics

  43. @ToniScott

I would say the #UUP vote is disappearing to the #Alliance party.

I really doubt that #Unionism vote had disappeared - large parts of Unionism's vote stayed at home. One electoral ward was as low as 33%!

They are still there but their politicians aren't motivating them to come out! #NIpolitics
