¿Sabían que en el ciclo artúrico, Nimue (también conocida como Viviana o la Dama del Lago) no es una simple antagonista, sino que representa la transferencia del conocimiento druídico a una nueva era?
Según los textos de La Vulgata y Le Morte d'Arthur, Nimue no utilizó la fuerza para vencer a Merlín, sino que aprovechó la obsesión del mago por ella para que él mismo le enseñara todos sus secretos y conjuros. El acto final de encerrarlo en una cueva, una roca o un árbol (dependiendo de la versión) se interpreta como el retiro forzoso de la vieja sabiduría pagana de Merlín, quien ya había cumplido su propósito de entronizar a Arturo.
A diferencia de Merlín, Nimue permaneció activa en la corte, rescatando a Arturo en diversas ocasiones y siendo la encargada de purificar la mesa redonda de influencias externas. Fue ella quien finalmente devolvió la espada Excalibur al agua tras la batalla de Camlann, cerrando el ciclo que Merlín había iniciado.
