Talking about things that are easier to read for me, though:
I've heard that both, the Netflix "Nimona" movie as well as the graphic novel / comic it's based on is supposed to be good, so, I'll give the graphic novel a try and aquire the movie afterwards. As the latter is a Netflix production, I assume there's no bluray release.
But well!
From a first look, I don't love the graphic novel's artstyle, I prefer the look of the movie trailer, but it's fine, and I'm looking forward to see if it's as good as people say!

Movie Review 6: Nimona
Been on the list for a while. Characters are cool and Nimona is just a chaos demon! Enjoyed it. Light hearted and a bit daft with really cool visuals.
The dogs are pink.

Also I just connected the dots that the people behind #Nimona (the animated movie) are for the most part members of the former Blue Sky Studio that gave us the Ice Age series.

I knew absolutely nothing going in. I saw a clip on TikTok where #Nimona first meets Ballister, and she had a very funny "Bugs Bunny" vibe. That was enough to sell me on it.
So imagine my shock finding it's set in a "cyberpunk Camelot" of sorts.
And I had no idea about the shape-shifting element.
Interestingly the setting doesn't seem to add much to the story that couldn't have been done in a more traditional era. But it IS a refreshing and welcome twist.
The cast is quite good; Chloë Grace Moretz, especially, sells the chaos-maker-masking-deep-pain of it all.
The climax of the film really hit me hard, seeing this poor aching creature resorting to something I wouldn't have expected to see in an animated feature.
Excellent film, filled with a lot of heart.
My only real beef is the last couple seconds of the film. I'd have had much more respect if they'd left things on the note that it did. Much like Speilberg's "A.I.", it goes on a beat too long, unable to commit to a meaningful, melancholy ending. (Which is what dinged it a star, for me.)
Real good stuff, otherwise!

I just watched #Nimona and I am completely feral. I have so many thoughts I have none at all. This movie has altered my brain chemistry. Geez first #AcrossTheSpiderverse and now this??? So many good #animatedfilms this year.
Also the #trans vibes were off the charts. That "just be a girl" line hit me the first time but the second time???? AUGGHHH :screamcat:
