  1. Photos: The Next Generation (Film Edition)

I put up a post the other day with some photos I took when I went to the ocean and Plum Island. At the time I said there would be a film edition of the post to follow and this is it.

    Sort of.

I shot two full rolls of film. One 35mm and one 120. I also finished off the last few shots from an old roll of 35mm. I got them all developed and the scans came back the other day and last night I uploaded them all to Flickr and now it’s time for another post here.

Sort of. I am saving the 120 shots for another post. These are just 35mm pics. I’m also thinking of trying to sort of mirror the previous post. This plan probably won’t last for long, but let’s see.

The sunrise view sort of sucked, but I got a little glimpse of it. This is my Nikon FG-20 shooting my first ever roll of Lomography 800. I like the way the sun flares. At least the tiny bit of the sun we could actually see.

I think my plan to follow the first post is already dead… maybe not. I think this is from Salisbury Beach but I’m not sure. This is from my Pentax K1000 shooting Kentmere 400.

(note: on second look, I’m pretty sure this is Hampton Beach when the digital post was still at Salisbury Beach. Let’s not worry about that now though)

This next picture is crap, but speaking of sun flares! Woah!

Here’s one that I took on both film and digital. I can’t tell which is better. Maybe the film?

Another that I can’t tell whether it is better or worse than the digital version. This was with a 50mm lens and the digital was with an 85mm so the crop is different. Is crop the right word? I don’t think so.

The digital version of this is way better. Oh well.

Shooting black and white at the beach seems sort of silly, but I kinda dig it.

I thought maybe the light was better at this spot when I was shooting film than it was for digital. Maybe not.

More birds. I don’t think I have enough bird-centric film pics to stay on track with the previous digital post. Sorry.

And by this point both 35mm cameras were out of film and I was not going to take the time to reload so this is where this post ends. There will be another post from this day that will have the 120 film shots. That’s going to be grouped with some pics I took in Boston last week. I’ll explain later.

And by this point both 35mm cameras were out of film and I was not going to take the time to reload so this is where this post ends. There will be another post from this day that will have the 120 film shots. That’s going to be grouped with some pics I took in Boston last week. I’ll explain later.

  6. Getting Close

It is Wednesday. Vacation starts on Saturday, three days from now. The Florida trip starts on Sunday, four days from now. The temperature gauge in my car told me that it was -3 degrees out as I was driving through Wilmington, MA a couple of hours ago. Florida can’t get here soon enough, know what I mean?

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/robj_1971/54076582035/in/album-72177720301306543

This photo is inside a Disney Resort Hotel. That’s why it applies to the topic of this post. It’s not obvious so I figured I’d explain. Maybe I’ll post another Disney on film thing later just to be more obvious. We’ll see.

  7. Making Plans

Five days until the first full day of vacation. Six days until we fly to Florida. We’re starting to finalize our plans for our week at Disney World. There is an after hours thing at Hollywood Studios one night, and another at Magic Kingdom on a different night. The after hours things are fantastic. It feels like you have the entire park to yourself.

  8. One Week from Today

One week from today we will be in Disney World again.

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/robj_1971/54075281957/in/album-72177720301306543

    Five work days to go…
Six days until we’re on vacation…
Seven days until we’re in Florida.

Oh yeah, and it’s snowing out and we could get eight inches of the shit tonight. Yippee. It’s gonna be a loooong week.

  9. Closer and Closer

It is just about 2:30pm on Friday January 17th. One week from today I will be post-lunch on the last work day before vacation. How am I going to focus on the real world over the intervening week? The Vacation is becoming an all consuming obsession. Partly because I really want to go, but also because it stops me from stressing about the end of American society on Monday next week.

The first full day of vacation is eight days away. The Florida/Disney World return is nine days away. I can’t wait to go. I can do without the upcoming shit hitting the fan on Monday the 20th though.

  10. Nine Days

Vacation starts in nine days. Florida trip starts in 10 days. Getting close enough to fog my brain with vacationitis.

Not many people know this, but the Tomorrowland People Mover is THE BEST ride in all of Disney World. By far. Nothing even comes close (other than Rise of the Resistance and Smuggler’s Run). The People Mover RULES.

  11. 10 Days

10 days until vacation. 11 days until the return to Florida. Here in Massachusetts it is very cold outside. In Florida… we’re hoping it won’t be cold at all. A boy can dream, right?

Note, this trip will probably be our last chance to take blurry film photos of the Muppets at Hollywood Studios. Changes are coming and the Muppet neighborhood is getting the axe. sadface.

  12. 13 Days

12 days until we’re on vacation. 13 days until we travel back to Orlando for another Disney World trip. Expect me to use this countdown as an excuse to post lots of Disney-on-Film pics, and expect me to use the next visit as another excuse to shoot a butt-tonne of film. You’ve been warned.

  13. 16 Days

16 days until our Florida vacation. Actually… 16 days and a wake up… meaning I think I counted wrong and it’s actually 17 days. Whatever, it’s coming up. Warm weather… I need it. I need it. It’s freakin’ cold in New England!

  14. 18 Days Away

It feels a little silly to be hyping up for a vacation on the first week back after the holidays, but here we are. 18 days until we leave for Florida where the temperatures hopefully will be a ton higher than the frosty 25 degrees we’re dealing with right now.

18 days is a long way off still, but I am starting to get psyched for it. Disney 2025 part one of two.

  15. Up Next

Let’s see here… we did Halloween, then we did Thanksgiving twice, then we decorated the house for xmas, then we did xmas, then we did New Years… what’s next?

I’ll tell you what’s next… Florida. Jen has a milestone birthday in early February. Jen’s mother has a milestone birthday too. Yeah, screw it, let’s go to Disney World. Bellana is going to come with us this time. Harry’s in the middle of his last semester in college so he can’t come, but back in February of 2020 we went to Disney World while Harry was on school vacation and Bellana wasn’t, so this trip will even the score.

We’re not going until late in the month so there is plenty of time for me to post old photos from previous Disney trips to psyche everyone up for it. There is also plenty of time for me and Jen to binge every Disney YouTube channel that exists to prep for everything that is to come.

Up next for us on the huge event schedule… Disney World 2025-A*!

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/robj_1971/53288542550/in/album-72177720301032107

*Why is it 2025-A you ask? Because there will be a Disney World 2025-B trip over the summer, that’s why. We are out of control. Out Of Control.

  16. It’s Really Cold Out

Another freezing cold day here in Massachusetts. New England is in a deep freeze right now. At this moment I am sitting at my desk in the cellar with a heavy sweatshirt on, a space heater running, and an electric blanket draped over me.

    Yeah, it’s cold.

I just want the air to be warm enough to let us go outside without it being painful. Is that too much to ask?

  17. First Day of Winter

Well… it’s winter again. Again. Literally winter, as opposed to the last three plus months which was figuratively winter. Literal winter runs from December to March. Here in New England, figurative winter runs from September 1st through sometime in late June. The upside of the first day of winter is that from now on the days start getting longer. The downside is that it’s going to get colder and more awful with each passing day, and it’s going to take so long for the days to get longer enough that it matters that it won’t make any real difference for months.

    I hate winter.

December 21st puts us in the home stretch for xmas. I am still waiting for the amazonians to deliver a couple of things so the wrapping is still not complete. I have to go out and pick up a few things today as well. That includes some food supplies for xmas eve, xmas dinner, and our slightly delayed annual xmas eve party which happens on the Sunday after xmas this year. I also need to bring my work-holiday gift to my sister’s today so we can have it with xmas dinner.

I need to play guitar but there probably won’t be time for it. I need to go out and take pictures of stuff but the weather likely won’t let me. Ugh.

Lots to do, but I can’t do anything until I clean the tiny amount of snow we got yesterday off of the cars and the driveway. Ugh.

I hate winter. Remember that time a few years ago when we went to Florida in January and the weather was warm? Can we maybe do that again?

  18. I Hate Winter

Winter officially begins over night tonight. It snowed today and there is a little snow on the ground.

I hate winter. I just hate it. I want nice weather and sunshine and water and fun back, right now.

  19. Not Ready Yet

I have three rolls of 35mm film that are ready to be developed. I don’t want to ship them out yet though. I have that new/ancient medium format camera now and I want to wait until I finish a test roll so that I can be sure it works okay. I just want to bundle all of this film into one order with the developing lab, you know? One order, one shipment. I just have to take the new camera out somewhere and use it. I only get 12 shots in a roll. I should be able to get that done quickly, right?

    Oh the film shooting drama.

  20. Broken Record

I sound like a broken record here but I need to find the time and energy to go out and shoot photos. I have a new camera to play with and I haven’t used at all yet. What am I waiting for?

Sunday morning? I am going to be busy tomorrow morning, so that’s out. The next day though is Sunday. Maybe? Probably not, but maybe. We’ll see. It’s gettin’ cold out there, kids. If I don’t get out now I won’t be up for it for months.

Disney World announced today that they are closing the Muppet Vision 3D show at Hollywood Studios. That makes me sad. I love that goofy little 15 minute movie. I’m always down to see it when we’re at the park. Hopefully it will still be open when we go in January.

  27. Good Family Weekend

From a family point of view, this weekend was wonderful. From a creative projects point of view though this weekend didn’t happen. No music, no photo projects beyond just snapping a few with my phone.

I literally would not change a thing, but maybe over the next week I’ll do some creative stuff. Just to balance the karmic scales, you know?

Here’s a film photo to hold me over for tonight.
