  1. So, the article talks about "driver-assistance systems that encourage confident nighttime driving at highway speeds". You know, those systems do NOTHING when a deer runs out into the road! On dark, rural roads, I take my time and scan visually ahead for the light reflecting off a deer's eyes on the side of the road. That's prevented collisions a number of times! As for my headlights? Warm, old school lights that work just fine to illuminate deer eyes!

  6. ‘Anyone who has driven at night in the last few years knows what I’m talking about: A modern crossover crests a hill in the opposite lane, and the cabin briefly fills with enough cold-white light to suggest a police helicopter has joined traffic. The obvious assumption is that drivers are simply leaving their high beams on more often, but the reality is more complicated.’

Yep… been blinded for critical seconds around bends many times and that was with beams dipped! There is a *Standard* to do with how bright (lumens) a low beam must be, but it seems that modern cars are not compliant to me… I know I’m getting old and my vision isn’t what it once was but, sincererly, do low beam **have** to be that bright?

  11. I've been running the Ultimate9 Lighting Pack on my BYD Shark 6 and it's been a fantastic upgrade. The light output makes a huge difference on dark roads, and I really like how the low-profile design integrates neatly with the vehicle without needing a bull bar or nudge bar. It looks factory-fitted and adds plenty of practical visibility for night driving.

  17. Every autumn, mother skunks drive their four-month-old babies away to find territory of their own.
    It’s nature’s way — but for us, it’s terrifying.

I move slowly because I don’t understand how fast your cars are.
When danger comes, I spray instead of running — that’s how my kind survives predators, not highways.

October and November are when the most young skunks die on roads.
We cross at night, confused and homeless for the first time.

If you see a small, slow shape under your headlights — please brake.
I’m not trying to spray you. I’m just trying to survive my first night alone. 🦨💔
