Every autumn, mother skunks drive their four-month-old babies away to find territory of their own.

I move slowly because I don’t understand how fast your cars are.
When danger comes, I spray instead of running — that’s how my kind survives predators, not highways.

October and November are when the most young skunks die on roads.
We cross at night, confused and homeless for the first time.

I can barely tolerate driving at night here in rural BC. I got a pair of yellow lens night-driving glasses which do help to cut the glare. Check out this article- "Asleep at the Wheel in the Headlight Brightness Wars"
