My wife and I went through the new #NightCourt series on Netflix. It was fine, there were some nice callbacks, and John Larroquette was as good as ever. The deliveries of a lot of the rest of the cast, however, was stilted, even for a sitcom.
This weekend, I found the original series on Prime and we started in on that. The difference in the caliber of acting from series-to-series is phenomenal. I hadn't realized how much I missed the original cast and how touching the series was while still being silly and light.

Me too Bull, me too. Sometimes I have to look up the 80s references because 7 year old me wasn’t as aware as I am now.
For no particular reason I’ve been watching old Night Court episodes. In season 2 there was an episode that was almost a trans allegory, about a girl who pretends to be a boy to participate in a fathers and sons program. Season 3 there’s an actual trans episode about one of Dan’s old high school friends. It’s about as good as you can expect for 1985, which is of course worlds better than our current administration.

They hired a bunch of young writers whom I doubt had ever seen a single episode of the original show.
The show had no heart. When they brought back iconic characters from the original series as guests, they had no idea how to write for them.
But the handwriting was on the wall was when they unnecessarily turned Roz… who once lived above a Male Strip Club and fell in love with convict Dennis Haysbert… gay.🤦♂️
I know it's not some weighty narrative series, but having "Night Court" cancelled when they ended the season on a cliffhanger is really annoying to me.
