  1. Thanks to YouTube, I was finally able to see the harrowing documentaries JUVENILE LIAISON (1976) and JUVENILE LIASON II (1990). Co-directed by #NickBroomfield and #JoanChurchill, the docs focus on the often brutal tactics of the titular occupations as they combat adolescent "crime." I say it like that because the worst offenses shown here are allegedly minor theft from classmates. So it is absolutely horrific watching one Sergeant Ray grill these poor kids like they stole the Hope Diamond. The film culminates with Ray hauling a 7-year-old to jail to frighten him. His crime? Stealing another boy's cowboy costume. Even worse, Ray's preferred method of dealing with young boys is snatching them up by a fistful of their hair. Outraged by the tactics (or, more likely, upset they were being shown) the police demanded the #BFI (who funded the first doc) have it withdrawn...and the company complied! 15 years later it was allowed to be shown and the directing duo used that moment to try to catch up with all of the subjects to see how they turned out. Like the #MichaelApted #UP series, but with more police brutality.
