Agape – Nicholas Britell
This past drum corps season (2024, for those of you reading this further in the future), two groups performed the Nicholas Britell composition “Agape” in their shows. The song, originally written for the film If Beale Street Could Talk, is very haunting while uplifting, and its title’s meaning dates back to ancient Greece:
Agape (/ɑːˈɡɑːpeɪ, ˈɑːɡəˌpeɪ, ˈæɡə-/;[1] from Ancient Greek ἀγάπη (agápē)) is “the highest form of love, charity” and “the love of God for [human beings] and of [human beings] for God”. 1
While I loved how the Bluecoats and the Mandarins used Agape in their productions, I had not listened to the original composition until today. It stilled my mind as I could do nothing but listen to it. I hope it does the same for you.

I first became aware of Britell via the heart-fluttering string vignettes of the MOONLIGHT soundtrack. He produces such accessible but nuanced work for the screen.

So, I'm just getting around to watching #Andor now. There are so many reasons I love the series, but #NicholasBritell 's sublime homage to Vangelis is probably my favorite.
