On the current talk, we need government to legislate to open up the current internet providers, both mobile and fixed, to change their networks to be more friendly to user, grassroots, lead p2p and local hosting. This will need #EU and national governments to shape this change by intervening in these markets, to open them to this native #openweb path.
This could be a positive way of unblocking the current https://hamishcampbell.com/?s=geekproblem as the negative way is currently being blocked by the narrowness of current #NGI funding.

Good point from the mastodon crew about NGI funding the social side of #opensource to balance the very small hard tech part of this native path. This is fundamentally anti-commercial in its development, but not in its use. So the development side needs balanced funding. And currently the huge social side is completely unfunded, this is pushing mess because the funding is currently pushing a narrow #techfix paths that are not native to open-source and #FOSS - and yes i understand this is anti-common sense but projects without users and support are dead projects #KISS

It's good to see events like this, as the Fediverse and the #openweb reboot are forces for social good that we do need to support. And this event clearly shows that we need more shovels and composting, and some activism to bring in new "native" projects.

I will attend the Next Generation Internet Forum in Brussels on Thursday and Friday.
This event is part of the @EUCommission’s Horizon Europe program, which probably has funded more free and open source software development than any other government program.
The next grant program framing is bizarre—Virtual Worlds and Web 4.0—but €14.5M available for “Open Internet Stack” dev.
