  1. A Zoom in to the Butterfly Nebula

I haven’t used my Youtube channel very much recently so to avoid disappointing my subscribers, of whom there are several, I have today uploaded a video showcasing the work of colleagues in the Physics Department at Maynooth.

This zoom in from an optical Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image shows how infrared observations by the James Web Space Telescope reveal the surprising details of the structure at the heart of the Butterfly Nebula, NGC 6302

  2. The butterfly nebula #NGC6302

A planetary nebula actually represents a phase that stars like our Sun experience after they use up much of their fuel.

  3. NGC 6302 Bug Nebula

Magnitude 7.1 bipolar planetary nebula located 3,400 light-years away in the constellation Scorpius. The structure in the nebula is among the most complex ever observed in planetary nebulae. The spectrum of NGC 6302 shows that its central star is one of the hottest stars known, implying that the star from which it formed must have been very large.
