The 2nd day of the NFDI4Earth Plenary 2025 starts with two keynotes.
1️⃣ We are very happy to welcome Lilli Freda, executive director, and Daniele Bailo, IT officer, from EPOS (https://www.epos-eu.org/).
They present how the European research infrastructure for solid Earth science helps to move from fragmented, heterogeneous data to open, integrated and multidisciplinary research, and to realise the ambition that data are used to their full effect.

The incubator project VISQAM from @ifgimuenster.bsky.social presented at #NFDI4EarthPlenary2025 helps computers to understand maps. 🗺️
The team builds an open dataset of annotated thematic maps and will open source their baseline model for map QA.

The pilot GeoLabel from @unifreiburg presented at #NFDI4EarthPlenary2025 takes interactive annotations of geospatial data beyond fixed tiles to labeling the entire dataset + sampling with #AI.
Features are soon to be integrated and published in https://deadtrees.earth/ - an open database for accessing, contributing, analyzing, and visualizing remote sensing-based tree mortality data with crowdsourced reference data (RGB) by drones.
