3. #NewWestPride has a #grassroots history. The New West Pride Society has been a community beacon for over a decade, starting as a small gathering and growing into a festival with over 40,000 attendees, entirely run by volunteers

Pride Parade begins 3pm to 7pm. Main and Festival stages will both have performers there so come with for this #BlockParty #StreetFestival for #LiveMusic

1. The first Pride was a riot. The modern Pride movement is often traced back to the #StonewallUprising in June 1969, a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the #LGBTQ+ community in response to a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in New York City

2. #BIPOC women led the charge. The Stonewall Uprising was largely sparked by the actions of transgender women of colour, like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, highlighting the crucial role that BIPOC individuals have always played in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights
