#TIL theres an "Almost Standards Mode" for CSS.

I knew about Quirks Mode (i.e. "do dumb shit that's mostly because of IE") and Standards Mode (i.e. "do it properly and as you'd expect, like Firefox does"). I'd never heard of "Almost Standards Mode"!

Was in the mood for listening to some of Ben Folds more depressing stuff (Cigarette, Brick, etc) and came across an album of his that's new to me. This waltz-y tune is my favourite. I thought it was going to be a love song but then came the twist in the story that cracked me up because, oh, we all have at least one of those people in our lives. #relatable

In a bit of #goodnews, @pluralistic writes about the history of "treat[ing] corporations as "persons," ... elevat[ing] them above personhood and subordinat[ing] entire nations to their whims." It kinda smacks of the East India Tea Company, but with fewer soldiers.

It appears that this very dark period of #colonialism via #treaty may be slowly coming to an end.

There's a bit of nitty-gritty of international law involved, and to my chagrin, it was all #newtome.

A #NewToMe article by Alex Russell (@slightlyoff) points out that websites are still way too bloated to reach 75 percent of global viewers. A page load on a cold cache shouldn't exceed 500 KiB, or people using older budget mobile devices won't be able to view your page in 5 seconds. Modern script-heavy #SinglePageApplication #FrontEnd frameworks are boat anchors compared to good old #ProgressiveEnhancement.

I'm agreeing with most of it, except that Alex's suggested split of 350 KiB of #JavaScript and 150 KiB of everything else (#HTML, #CSS, and images) sounds backwards to me.
