Newsboat - Mehrere Instanzen parallel starten

Es lassen sich mit einem kleinen Kniff mehrere Newsboat-Instanzen parallel starten und gleichzeitig nutzen. Anstatt einer einzigen großen Datenbank für alle Newsboate zu verwenden, wird für jede eine eigene Datenbank angelegt.

Tips for avoiding time-outs with Newsboat

First, apparently Newsboat always checks lines as they are placed in the file, so shuffling them helps not pinging feeds from a same domain all at once. Some programs have shuffle features built in, like Sublime Text with Edit > Permute lines > Shuffle, so no need to do it manually.

Second, if using auto-reload, remember to set reload-time too, else Newsboat will keep cycling updating the feeds without breaks.

Third, if using a repeating next-unread ; open-in-browser macro, try not making it too long. Macros don't have a throttle feature (actually Newsboat generally doesn't), so commands in the macro will run as soon as they can. And by consequence, the more a macro repeats, the more likely anti-bot features are to trigger.

Fourth, leveraging feeds slower to respond with one of the few throttling functions from Newsboat, download-timeout, can help lowering the aggressiveness of the reader too. When reloading the feeds, download-timeout 90 for example should make Newsboat wait 90 seconds for a response of a given feed before giving up and going to the next, giving some space for anti-bot features to cool down.

Fifth, keep an eye for redundant feeds that aren't needed. The less you ping a domain without need, the better.

Konfigurationsdateien lassen sich mit #Git einfach zwischen #macOS und Kubuntu #Linux synchronisieren.

Das ist ganz nützlich für den RSS-Readers #Newsboat, wenn man die gleichen Nachrichten auf unterschiedlichen Clients lesen möchte. Nutzt man macOS- und Linux-Gerätelassen sich einzelne Shortcuts zum Starten von Apps nicht mehr verwenden.

Der Grund: Die Startbefehle für Apps unterscheiden sich bei den beiden Betriebssystemen. Aber es gibt eine einfache Lösung. 😀

@primeapple Every Youtube Channel/Playlist automatically has an RSS feed. I just add them to my RSS reader #newsboat. This way I get a notification and a link to the video.

Descobri na última madrugada que o #RssOwl teve o código bifurcado e está sendo mantido como #RssOwlnix agora (https://github.com/Xyrio/RSSOwlnix).

Como ainda uso #RSS e tenho me irritado com o uso excessivo de memória do #Newsboat, baixei e testei no Leap 15.6. De cara, preciso dizer como é incrível um programa baseado em Eclipse e Java, dada a situação do desktop hoje, parecer um alento: alta densidade de informação, menus em cascata, barras de ferramentas, painéis ajustáveis.

Estou digitando isso do mini-tablet HiGole com #Fedora #Silverblue, no qual me forço a ter contato com a "modernidade". Conectei a pequena máquina a dos meus monitores de 29" e, mesmo assim, acho os rumos atuais lamentáveis. Emburrecemos e empobrecemos o desktop a troco de nada.

Today I learned that `newsboat` categorizes feeds based on tags which are automatically applied when you upload the `.opml` file. To view the tag list, you just hit `t`! `newsboat` just got a whole lot better!

Well it took some effort but now I can read Aftenposten from the terminal, with #Newsboat and #LynxBrowser.

Complications were:

1. Setting up Lynx with the right compile time and config file options for saving/loading login cookies and display of Norwegian characters.
2. Working out how to login in the first place (there is a bunch of Javascript, switching between sites and also 2FA)*.

* In the end I logged in with Vivaldi and then used an extension to export all the relevant cookies into a format that Lynx could use. It was just easier. 🤷

For now I have switched back to #Armbian on the #MangoPi . Since hopping around some new packages are available and I was able to install #Newsboat and #Cmatrix.

I'm very much diggin' the theming I put in place :ferrisdance:
