  1. Albo slammed amid calls to end decades-long ‘damaging’ forest logging

“Over 90 per cent of native forest that is logged in NSW is pulped and sent overseas to be used in woodchips and cardboard.”

“The NSW government has been covering the losses of the native forest logging industry for nearly a decade. It is not a profitable industry; in the past two years alone, $29 million of taxpayer money was spent subsidising native forest logging".

"...The NSW government's audit office found FCNSW (Forestry Corporation of NSW) did not consistently monitor compliance of its contractors or assess risks."

  2. We just have to get out of logging

"Conservationists claim harvesting operations are mismanaged, logged too intensively and come at a cost to the taxpayer and the environment."

"Dailan Pugh from the North East Forest Alliance says the biggest problem is the loss of mature trees, which are the homes and future for wildlife...We need to give our wildlife a chance to recover, we need to value our forests for the water they yield and — most importantly — the carbon they take out of the atmosphere."

"The NSW government has committed to creating a Great Koala National Park, which will take in existing state forests that span from the Clarence Valley to south of Coffs Harbour. Concerns over dwindling koala numbers across NSW led the Natural Resources Commission to lead independent work on how koalas responded to harvesting in state forests".

  3. Half of species under threat in NSW are on course to become extinct in next 100 years

Stop business as usual , stop logging and land clearing now!

    The review "found n a t i v e f o r e s t l o g g i n g was damaging f o r e s t e c o s y s t e m s and the habitat of native species and was scathing of the state’s offset scheme."

"Laws meant to protect the environment in New South Wales are failing and unlikely to ever succeed unless substantially changed, according to a scathing review that warns half of the species under threat in the state are on course to become extinct within the next 100 years."

"The independent review of the Biodiversity Conservation Act, released on Thursday, makes 58 recommendations to overhaul nature protections in the state and commit the government to preserving the environment for future generations."

  14. STOP LOGGING!
Legal action to protect Aboriginal cultural sites leads to temporary logging halt in Newry State Forest

"Legal action in the Land and Environment Court has led to a temporary halt to logging in a state forest that could form part of the proposed Great Koala National Park. Gumbaynggirr Elders have launched the action in a bid to permanently cease logging in the forest."

"The Great Koala National Park, as it's proposed, would connect 175,000 hectares of state forests — including Newry State Forest — with existing national parks, creating a nature reserve of more than 300,000 hectares."

  15. Logging the Mid North Coast of NSW in the midst of a biodiversity and climate crisis

The Forestry Corporation is planning to log native forests of Bellingen. This 'panic logging' within the proposed Great Koala National Park. The broad-scale clear-felling will endanger the koala and all of bio-diverse more-than-human systems. It will heat up the climate and increase the fire risks.
The many logging trucks and heavy fossil fuel machinery will be a hazard for all of Bellingen and the surrounding areas. Noise, dust and pollution will lessen all of our lives.
There was no consultation process with affected 'stakeholders' or the people of Bellingen. This is undemocratic.

  17. NSW Labor accused of ‘fundamental breach of trust’ over logging in promised koala national park

"Tensions are escalating in state forests near Bellingen, where a protesters’ camp is locked in a standoff with a heavy police presence. The government made one single promise – it was going to create the great koala national park – and now it’s gutting it. All communities around are considering it a fundamental breach of trust and reneging on a promise.”

"The Nature Conservation Council of New South Wales (NCC), the states leading environmental advocacy organisation, has today condemned targeted and intensive logging of forests within the proposed Great Koala National Park (GKNP) by Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW)."

"Newry State Forest on the Mid-North Coast (10km west of Urunga) is the most recent target of these operations inside the proposed GKNP...31,000 hectares of forest are currently slated for logging within the boundaries of the proposed GKNP over the next 12 months.
