Weird #NewPI and #AcademicChatter thought: I think I've realised the thing I miss most after transitioning to a PI role: music. Almost all my work now focuses around reading/writing. I can't listen to music when I write. I never get to just sit at the bench and power through mindless tasks. 1/2

Seems like we are having a lucky streak:
- Franzi is about to submit her PhD thesis 💪🏻
- Felix received excellent feedback on his first paper 💪🏻
- Simon is producing tons of exciting new simulation results 💪🏻
- Dimitris finally started his PhD adventure here in Hohenheim 💪🏻
- Rémi accepted our job offer and is planning to join the #ecoevo #modelling team in March 💪🏻
- ...and even my little coworker is in an excellent mood! 🥰I'm a *very* proud #newPI today. 🎉

Oof. I feel so stressed. So many projects were supposed to be done before the winter break (haha) but they ALL decided to develop a life of their own and haunt me during vacation.
Argh. Sigh.(But: the biggest goal for this year was to simply stay in the game and keep my group running, together with my little coworker, and we totally nailed that!)

I remember feeling terribly nervous before job interviews. Let’s be honest, it’s an awful feeling. But I never realised the other side might be equally nervous. Choosing the *right* person for a given job is so much more difficult than I thought. And that person also has to match with the rest of my team, otherwise it won’t work. Exciting times ahead!

It's been tremendous: meeting new people, joining terrific research projects, and fitting in some old ones.

Alright I’m (reluctantly) back and trying out this app.
Might as well start on a high note: the lab has been awarded our first big NSF. Our BRC-BIO grant will support our work using #astrangia to study how variation in multi-partner symbioses affects host immunity. This project also supports undergraduate research experiences for students at TXST and RWU (w/ awesome co-PI Koty Sharp). We’re pretty pumped!
