CW: Manga Spoilers: Kinato's Magic, Chapter 1

A new series dropped from Shonen Jump entitled "Kinato's Magic."

The first chapter introduces us to Kinato, a young man who is a magic user in a fantasy world. His magic is purely about rearranging mana and has been used by him and his family to for healing or physical therapy purposes. And it works well.

Throughout the first chapter, this shy man who doesn't believe in himself or his powers are worth anything realizes that he is.

A fantasy world story based around a character with low self esteem suddenly realizing that he is not just capable, but actually incredibly useful? I can get behind that.

    Will check out Chapter 2.

    Series: Someone Hertz
    Number of Chapters: 10+
Premise: Class President Mimei and short, quirky girl Kurage both find out the other is super into this late night radio show that sends out comedy prompts every week. They both send in their one liner responses as they bond over their enjoyment of the series.
Opinions: This is silly and fun. The two of them are definitely going to end up together in a comedic fashion by the end. I don't know how long this shtick will keep working, but it has so far after 10 chapters and I'm still enjoying it.

    Series: The Mage Next Door
    Number of Chapters: 3+
Premise: Mages live in a parallel society to humanity. One particularly lazy mage only wants to learn about magic that will make his life simpler. He is then sent to the world of humans to stop some renegade mages who are using magic illegally and harming people.
Opinions: Another villain of the week series, it seems and magic of the week where our hero uses his mundane sounding magic to actually defeat enemies who seem more powerful on paper. In mage world, people specialize in one magic. The main character specialized in so much he's a jack of all trades. It's fun so far.

Series: Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits
    Number of Chapters: 2+
Premise: Teenage magical girl and ancient evil both are tired of fighting, so decide to become roommates and just try to live normal lives.
Opinions: Only 2 chapters in, but it's cute. Slice of life comedy about two enemies become temporary friends because none of them want to fight anymore. There's magic involved and maybe fighting, but largely for comedic effect. Overall, fun thus far.

    Series: Gonron Egg
    Number of Chapters: 4+
Premise: Human society has collapsed as alien creatures called Drakarchs took over Earth. Suddenly, a beefy human finds an egg that talks to it. This egg is that of the rightful king of the Drakarchs who wanted to live peacefully with humans, not antagonize them. He promises to do so if our human helps him take out those who stole his thrown. He obliges.
Opinions: The series feels like a monster of the week (or two week) shonen manga figuring out how Gonron with his new powers will defeat another Drakarch leader who is defying the rightful king. it doesn't take me a lot of thought in reading it, so it's fun.

There have been a string of new manga series that have dropped in the US via Viz's Shonen Jump app and I've dove into a handful of them so you don't have to.

The following thread will go through the ones I'm reading so far with a quick name, premise, number of chapters in so far, etc.

    Let's go.

CW: Manga Spoilers: Nice Prison, Chapter 1

So, Nice Prison is a new manga series. I'm down to try a first chapter of a new series, so I checked it out. I'm...no.

The story has two main character - a woman whose Dad was a prison guard so she wanted to be one and a "super model prisoner" who was born in prison to two inmates and got himself arrested for like jaywalking so he could help keep order in the prison.

    ...

So, a cop, designed to look like a child, and a fake convict are going to be keeping order in prison with a bunch of other cops / guards being largely unhelpful.

    That's the series.

    Huge pass for me.

I should've looked at the premise more before reading cause it's 100% not my thing.

CW: Manga Spoilers - Nue's Exorcist, Chapter 1

Nue's Exorcist - Okay, so first chapter of a new series. It kicks off by introducing us to Gokuro Yajima who sees spirits. Also, his Dad was murdered by a spirit.

Then he meets Nue - a spirit who hangs around in a school classroom playing video games / playing manga. She has some ulterior motive, I'm sure, but she is tied to the school and offers powers to Gokuro to defeat some problematic spirits in the school.

Eventually he says yes. And the chapter ends with the premise set.

Okay, I'm down to try this out.

CW: Manga Spoilers - Tenmaku Cinema, Chapter 1

Tenmaku Cinema - New series. First chapter summary - Former sick kid who is obsessed with movies gets partially processed by a deceased teenage screenwriter who wants to see their movie made. Former movie star teenage girl joins their school - the ghost forces the lead to show her his screenplay.

    End scene.

It was okay. I'll give it another chapter before deciding.
