  2. Israel's "1947 war has continued in multiple different forms:  1956, 1967, 1973 and 2023. This last phase is not the end. Not by any criterion."

  3. Reading the issue on the left as the one on the right gets delivered. I'm a little behind.

  4. I hang in with my #NewLeftReview subscription though tbh I'm often disappointed.
    Not with the current edition!
I especially recommend the #Palestine interview, the article on #AMLO and #México and the review of Hatherley's book on the #Labour new left.
I've yet to read the #Hindutva article.
Some will be free to read online.

  5. Had to unsubscribe from #NewLeftReview just now. Tariq Ali uncritically celebrating Palestinian 'resistance' is not something I can stomach after reading accounts of Hamas' war crimes. A plague on both their houses, as far as I am concerned.

  6. "The problem, the Dardennes’ films suggest, is not simply a world that cannot offer us safety, but our irredeemable desire for it. [..] Their characters are caught in what Berlant would call a state of ‘cruel optimism’, wedded to hopes and desires that post-industrial capitalism cannot deliver."

  7. "To be sure, this total lack of scruples recalls the attitude of the Nietzschean Übermensch, for whom everything is permissible. [..] His desire is to oversee a permanent secession not of the plebs from the patriciate, as occurred in ancient Rome (as in the fable of Menenius Agrippa) but of the patriciate from the plebs."
