Mandelson’s troubles come amid broader controversies. He was dismissed as Britain’s ambassador to the US in September after revelations about his connections to convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein, and he is under criminal investigation for allegedly passing market‑sensitive government information to Epstein. A former business secretary and key architect of New Labour, Mandelson was appointed ambassador by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in December 2024, arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office, and remains a high‑profile figure in British politics.

#NewLabour hated Devolution. They only did it because they were more afraid of an independent Scotland, hobbling the assemblies with a better and fairer electoral system in the hope of ensuring continued Labour control. Didn't work with Holyrood and I hope the Senedd kicks the bastards out as well.

#NewLabour project was to continue Labour's 70 years of exclusive control of the left in parliament, whilst dragging the Labour bloc firmly into Thatcherite territory and winning power for that milder Thatcherism with a light sprinkling of Labour vibe.

Just when you think a terrible #NewLabour idea is safely buried with a stake through its rotten heart, #NewerLabour digs it up and pulls the stake out. PFI grossly inflates the costs of construction by stacking up future debt for the NHS and sucks up public money into private pockets. @grayface_ghost hmm while I think they are incompetent, at some point you have to wonder if a political project that fails to deliver its goals might actually not have those goals at all. Like, my ford fiesta has never managed to enter lunar orbit, as hard as it has tried. So is it a shit spaceship or a decently working car?
I think the purpose of #NewLabour might be best understood by observing what it does. They aren't there to improve the economy, they're there to enjoy the throne.
