  1. Ye Gods, but I miss 2014.

We at Edgeryders failed in our quest for a new economy and a freer, better world. We did leave behind a network of collaboration and friendship, though, and some impressively skilled people, As I look through these old videos, I can see we have mostly not given up yet.

  6. Looking forward to learning from my co-panelists at the Wicked Symposium. I will try to be duly wicked. A brief consideration of the intellectual bankruptcy of the neoliberal economic paradigm should do it!

  11. Economics, always the dismal science, is now the object of active contempt. And rightly so. But: we are on it, people. Our side has economists too, and progressive economics has not been more lively since Joan Robinson was teaching in Cambridge.

Look for posts on #degrowth, #postgrowth, #NewEconomicThinking . Some of the heavy hitters have accounts, but sadly do not post much. I am nobody important, but I do watch that space and post about it.

  16. Won't you look at that. It seems we have liftoff for an *economic* transition away from fossil fuels.

The transition needs to be economic, because some poorer countries rely on fossil fuels to service their debt. So debt cancellation is part of the package.

Or, as Jason Hickel would put it, the scarce resource of economic transformation is politics.

  31. I'm speaking at the #TechAndSociety2025 with the Rhodes Trust and Equitech Futures in Oxford this November.

I will be part of a panel on the Economics of Abundance. Meshes well with #degrowth, #newEconomicThinking and my newfound romance with #economics. 😅 💖

  41. "The Dignity Deficit: Inequality, Work, & Recognition

Thomas Piketty and Michael Sandel explore how inequality isn’t just about wealth—it’s about dignity. They discuss how economic structures fail to value workers without elite credentials and propose solutions that go beyond redistribution."

Taxing the rich, with progressive taxation 80-90%, actually works very well, says Thomas Piketty

"In Michoacán, local Indigenous communities began litigating to reclaim police budgets for their use, arguing that the government had failed to protect their areas from cartels. This strategy resulted in several court victories, which ultimately led to the incorporation of direct budgeting into legislation."

  54. I read the Draghi report so you don't have to. The upshot: bold in policy proposals, but most of the high-level analysis is based on GDP being a reliable indicator of human well-being. Since it is not, there is a GIGO problem.
