Ye Gods, but I miss 2014.
We at Edgeryders failed in our quest for a new economy and a freer, better world. We did leave behind a network of collaboration and friendship, though, and some impressively skilled people, As I look through these old videos, I can see we have mostly not given up yet.

Economics, always the dismal science, is now the object of active contempt. And rightly so. But: we are on it, people. Our side has economists too, and progressive economics has not been more lively since Joan Robinson was teaching in Cambridge.
Look for posts on #degrowth, #postgrowth, #NewEconomicThinking . Some of the heavy hitters have accounts, but sadly do not post much. I am nobody important, but I do watch that space and post about it.

Won't you look at that. It seems we have liftoff for an *economic* transition away from fossil fuels.
The transition needs to be economic, because some poorer countries rely on fossil fuels to service their debt. So debt cancellation is part of the package.

I read the Draghi report so you don't have to. The upshot: bold in policy proposals, but most of the high-level analysis is based on GDP being a reliable indicator of human well-being. Since it is not, there is a GIGO problem.

I finally got around to reading this UN report. It's a great piece of rigorous, out-of-the-box thinking. The final recommendation is to include #postGrowth into the UN's Pact for the Future:
"The transition to a post-growth development trajectory [...]vshould be explicitly mentioned in A Pact for the Future, which will be adopted at the Summit of the Future, in September 2024."
Also the bibliography is great, a #NewEconomicThinking Greatest Hits.

Hello fellow menschen in #economics Mastodon! I would like to invest in attending a conference on what goes under the vague label of "new economic thinking" (post-growth, wellbeing economy, mission economy, doughnut. MMT etc etc.). Ideally:
* Taking place from September 2024 to June 2025.
* Not necessarily academic, a strong policy angle would be even better.
* Global South orientation a plus.Any recommendation? Where are YOU going?
