Continuing this week's colorful trend with these 19th c lithograph sheets worthy of Sister Corita!

  4. Harangue Me Two Times

    Harangue me two times baby
    Harangue me twice today
    Harangue me two times gryphon
    I'm goin' away

    Harangue me two times gryphon
French for tomorrow, Latin just for today
    I'm goin' away

  5. Oh, Deer!

This 1590 hunting book (French but verteuscht) starts with the tracking basics, but ends up somehow with a cervine ghost on its hands... then there's the relic-like presentation of the disembodied horn trophies! #NewberryLibrary i-share-nby.primo.exlibrisgrou

  6. Natural Disasters, 1843 Edition

Chapbook from Vienna lamenting an earthquake that took out 3/4 of the houses on the Lesser-Antilles isle of Guadaloupe, and all the churches, except one with a clock stuck at the time of impact! More eerily familiar bad old days reporting here: #NewberryLibrary (Case Wing ZC 1 .19 no. 47)

  7. Her . . . Funeral?

Rather taken by this late 18th c. trade card for Susanna Cook, Carpenter, Trunk, and Box-Maker! She even offered "carry-on sizes" and performed funerals. Wonder if it was only for male Londoners?

  8. We've Had a Whale of a Time!

    Our exciting panel at #NewberryLibrary

  9. @gairdeachas If you like libraries, while in #Chicago check out the Newberry Library and its fantastic exhibition on historical engineered books (aka pop-up books)! #NewberryLibrary

  10. If you're in #Chicago, see "Pop-Up Books" at the #NewberryLibrary! aka Engineered Paper, many are historical scientific tools such as astronomical calculators, globes, etc. Free entry!

  11. MAGNIFICENT MOVABLES!

  12. Don't You LOVE IT When A Book You Want...

Is one you already have? I'd been lusting after another copy of this beautifully engraved, anonymous Theater of Love from c. 1608.
Now I'm thrilled it's already enjoying its HEA at #NewberryLibrary! (Wing folio ZP 6461 .18) #ShopMyCloset

It's even interactive! That pristine shield waits for a bon mot, risqué comment, or doodle...

There's also the game of what are all those background couples up to. And WHO decided her decolletage was too revealing?!

  13. How Many Mini Newberries...
Can We Fit Inside Ruggles Hall At
    THE Newberry?

We had plenty of maker fun this weekend at an event #NewberryLibrary! Missed it? We have a great hybrid panel coming up about the show on May 25!

#NewberryLibrary and #BigShoulders Coffee teamed up to share our love for coffee, conversation, and pop-up books! Check out the extra-caffeinated mini Newberry now at 858 State St, Chicago!

  16. What Have We Here?

Maybe the best response to a virtual class visit, EVER?
I did show up (as requested) in a Marie Antoinette wig to discuss ephemeral erotica about her, and (of course), to plug our Pop-Up Book exhibition at #newberrylibrary!

  17. I got to be a talking head! About Pop-Up Books, in front of a HUGE set of Coronelli Celestial Globe Gores!
Glad I had my Dürer apocaleisure wear on!

Our exhibition continues at #NewberryLibrary through July 15! #TeamAlbrecht

  18. Your Best Is All You Can Doo

Getting Bohemian Rhapsody energy off of this inspired bit of swordplay:
"Let them go, Let them go, let them go, and doo their best...."

  19. Tell-All Volvelle?

Newly re-cataloged to include the movable bits! This hand-drawn "Viennese Oracle" dial from 1798 points you to one of 16 riddles and presumably, THE TRUTH!

#NewberryLibrary (Case Wing MS folio ZW 756 .D566)

    Wisdom of the Ages
Looks like the book is getting a ringing endorsement from Athena and her owl!

    Let's Play 16 Questions
    The topics range widely...
So, where DOES friendship come from? Clearly by playing with this book together!

  20. Two Heads (of State)
    Are Better Than One

Isabella Clara Eugenia and her husband Albert BOTH grace this well-used seal and are named above! She's the slightly taller figure on the right. They were co-governing the Spanish Netherlands in 1614 when this document was signed... She appears to be taller than him in almost all portraits, except when forced to sit down!

  21. Beribboned Advent Calendar?

    #AdventCalendar2022
    #December17 Day 17/24

    Parade AND Funeral?
These clever reversible ribbons with their impressive tassels were the pride of local Midwestern groups who assembled on holidays and to say goodbye to some of their own in more muted colors.

  22. Scrapbooking Century

    J. O. Westwood wrote an 1846 book on manuscript illumination, but this larger volume full of drawn and printed reproductions paints a much messier picture of his writing process!

  23. Protection Racket?

What are THOSE up at the top of this enormous choirbook?

    #NewberryLibrary #ManuscriptMonday (Case MS oversize 87)

Looks like leftover stitching from one of the largest silk curtains I've ever (not) seen! And many of the initials are faking us out with faux stitching around the edges!

There are also scads of fabric tabs marking out different sections of the book, and that IHS sun at the end (next to another set of tabs) is a doozy!
