  2. Just across the #Acushnet River from where I live, #NewBedford, #Massachusetts. got an all-time record 37 inches of snow in this #Blizzard of '26. My house lost power for just an hour during the storm, but others in #FairhavenMA were out for 30 hours or more. Some still have no power since early Monday morning. Many roads are still not cleared. My little house is in good shape, but we still can't really leave it yet, except on foot.

  7. Hype for the Future 65C: Martha’s Vineyard, the Island of Dukes County

Introduction While the Elizabeth Islands that separate the Buzzards Bay from the Vineyard Sound are located off the coast of the Woods Hole area and contain the Town of Gosnold, the vast majority of the approximately seventy (70) permanent residents are exclusively within the area of the village of Cuttyhunk on Cuttyhunk Island specifically, as the remaining islands are largely identified as privately owned by the Boston Brahmin Forbes family. The vast majority of Dukes County, […]

  12. Hype for the Future 65B: Nantucket, a Queer Haven, Town, County, and Island

Introduction The Town of Nantucket is the sole town in the consolidated town-county arrangement of Nantucket County, Massachusetts. Though not as notable for the LGBTQIA+ 🏳️‍🌈 population as the Cape Cod area, including Provincetown, the island of Nantucket offers seclusion that may provide privacy and security for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and aromantic/asexual community, albeit on a different register. Notable […]

  13. Two of the cenotaphs lining the walls of the chapel at Seamen's Bethel in New Bedford, memorializing sailors who lost their lives at sea. Most of these were installed by family members or crew-mates.

Yes, that is a cenotaph for Benjamin Frankin Pierce on the left, but not the one from Crabapple Cove.

  16. The view from Herman Melville's pew in the Seamen's Bethel, where he sat to watch Rev. Mudge give his sermon, partly inspiring Father Mapple. I'm in a Moby Dick book club right now, and this is where I read Father Mapple's sermon.

  18. Looking up the center of the pews towards the bowsprit pulpit in New Bedford's Seamen's Bethel, which inspired the chapel in Melville's "Moby Dick". The pulpit was installed in 1961 in part to satisfy visitors who wondered where the pulpit described in the book and depicted in Huston's 1956 film adaptation was.

"A harbor seal at a New Bedford zoo died earlier this month from complications of avian flu, officials said.

"Blue, a 21-year-old harbor seal, died last week due to complications from highly pathogenic avian influenza (#HPAI), commonly known as avian flu, the Buttonwood Park Zoo said on Facebook.

"Blue likely contracted the virus through contact with an infected wild bird, according to zoo officials."
