Scientists say a new space telescope will detect massive black holes.

Portuguese researchers predict that Europe's space observatory will detect hundreds of thousands of supermassive black holes.

The European Space Agency's future space observatory, the NewAthena telescope, could detect an unprecedented number of supermassive black holes, some formed when the universe was less than a billion years old.

A la fin des années 30, la mission #NewAthena de l'ESA orbitera autour de la Terre avec à son bord deux instruments : la caméra WFI et le spectromètre Athena X-IFU, dédiés à la détection et l'analyse des sources X.

Au cours de sa thèse qu'il soutiendra ce lundi prèm, Alexeï Molin a étudié l'une des sources X qui seront observées par X-IFU : le gaz intra-amas (de galaxies), et contribué à l'étalonnage de l'instrument : https://www.irap.omp.eu/event/etude-des-performances-scientifiques-et-de-letalonnage-de-lx-ray-integral-field-unit-a-bord-dathena/
