"In this two-hour workshop, participants will be introduced to sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitching technique originally used to reinforce and extend the life of garments. Participants will learn how to mend holes and reinforce worn areas in denim while exploring pattern, rhythm, and color. All materials will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring a pair of jeans, a denim jacket, or another denim item they would like to repair.
About Repair Café El Barrio
Founded in 2022, Repair Café El Barrio is a community-led, volunteer-powered repair initiative based at #ElBarrio'sArtspace PS109 in #EastHarlem. At its free and low cost events, volunteer repair coaches work alongside community members to repair clothing, electronics, furniture, jewelry, bicycles, and other belongings. Through hands-on repair, workshops, and creative reuse, Repair Café El Barrio helps keep useful objects out of the waste stream."
