Oops, forgot about the #NewScientist article splurge... To be absorbed this evening and tomorrow am. Tonight I will send out the #inventorsClub email ... for which we seem to have at least 4 talks which is good! And I'm itching to get on with the #buildingModel tomorrow. And I may have set myself up to do a conference talk and a journal paper extending Monday's #PintOfScience idea!

🗿✨ Behold, the #revelation of an ancient #script that allegedly unveils the dawn of writing -- because apparently, everything you learned was wrong. 🧙♂️📜 New Scientist has cracked the code, or maybe just cracked, and now we're all supposed to be enlightened. ⚡️📚

#today I will ride the #NewScientist article wave, (re!)read the constitution of an org that I chair and at least draft my rousing AGM speech and agenda, work on my research, and join a brainstorming session (or two) on-line...
I'd be unconvinced that I'd really managed any of the "retire early" thing except (ducks incoming rotten fruit, pitchforks, etc) that I'm only now considering getting out of bed to go work at my desk like a grown-up...

#today I am testing my energy system changes, have a smallish (so far) slate of #NewScientist articles queued up on tabs, am just about to do the next poke at my #buildingModel #research stuff, will be on a NESO Grib Forming Webinar, then this evening off to central London with a friend.
-
#today I am not getting a #NewScientist splurge to read - what happened?
I am cheered in my #research by having just found that an apparent test error in the #buildingModel that I'm working on is apparently an error in the test itself, and the model is meeting expectations better than expected in this part! Hurrah!

#Riemann is the room temperature #Superconductivity of #Mathematics. She is beautiful enough to make one cry as she tempts at a glance, then vanishes. The link between harmonic analysis , #Fourier , and pretty much all of #Physics takes a sledgehammer to the idea that mathematics and #Physics are twin sons of different mothers. This video is a not bad , very good introduction for newcomers. Timely and up to date

#today will include working through #NewScientist articles and meeting friends (including one over from the US) for beers...
-
#today will be catching up on the #NewScientist* article splurge, tweaking heat pump settings again to try to get DHW to run fully from the Enphase, and #buildingModel stuff.
*Sitting next to 5 of the NS crew at the #CBQuiz last night was fun!
-
@carbonbrief #CBQuiz It was a good one! Achieved about the same ranking as last year. Happy to have scored any points. Was sitting next to the #NewScientist / BusinessGreen / ... team and fan-boyed them a bit!
-
#today caught up up on #NewScientist and some other reading, had a meeting helping someone think about IP (patents, design rights, NDAs, etc), now about to get back into my #buildingModel #research stuff...
-
#today sending out a CfP for the inventors' club, catching up on a wave of #NewScientist articles, some #research #buildingModel work, recovering from too much Prosecco last night, and then an evening clubbing session https://www.7vibesjourney.com/

Very first admin bits done, plus read a Nature paper and ~8 #NewScientist articles so far (3 more queued), and the #coldbrew seems to be doing its thing.
Just about to join a 2h seminar, though may just have it on in background as too much else to get on with!
-
#today there is a little urgent-ish #lifeAdmin to do, at least a little #NewScientist article splurge, and then hopefully the few lines of initial code fixes for my #buildingModel work.
I slept badly, and today is not forecast to be as sunny as yesterday, so some of that may slow me down. I did remember when up at 3am to make a big pot of #coldbrew coffee.
-
#today just finished reviewing and commenting on #lowCarbon #communityEnergy #businessPlan for my mentee; will now catch up with #NewScientist article splurge!
-
@smyru @jakmarcin There seems to have been a stream of stuff popping up in #NewScientist over the last ~5Y I'd say, the most recent within a couple of months. If I was going to research a response like a grown-up I'd start my review here:

#today there is a lot of work-adjacent stuff I think that I will avoid getting into (excuse: still grinding throught the edges of a cold), but I *will* try and catch up on my #NewScientist article backlog!

I can't get over this reader answer to a question in New Scientist: If all the water on Earth’s surface and in the air were put into a ball, how large would the sphere be?
There's 1.37 × 10⁹ km³ of water, and this reader turns that into an actual cube, then does Google searches and trial-and-error to guess at a radius that equals that volume.
V = ⁴/₃ π r³ for a sphere; given V you can rearrange to solve for r (689 km). Maybe they didn't know? -
@vmbrasseur Gah, yes, how annoying. If I'm trying to read I don't things moving in my peripheral (or central!) vision. And you and I are not alone! A lesson that #NewScientist won't absorb either it seems...

#today I have discussed a possible research collaboration following my supervision yesterday, I am considering demand shaping from my heat pump with 'quiet' modes*, and I am ploughing through #NewScientist articles.

#today I have to select a paper for Journal Club and re-recreate the group invitation which seems to have partly rotted within the Exchange server. Also I will do some extra tests on the data gathered yesterday, since fixing now will be much easier than in a month. And catch up with the #NewScientist article pile building up in my open tabs...
-
@purplepadma As I don't expect the #NewScientist article splurge to arrive today given that the paper Xmas issue already arrived a few days ago, possibly bits of admin or possibly the next baby step with my research. Molehills that can feel like mountains for no especially good reason...
