If they truly followed the faith they pledge to uphold they would hold tightly to these core teachings; judge not and ye shall not be judged or treat others as you would like to be treated.

  2. This is the perfect example of a party that’s morally unfit to govern.

National have taken a cross party policy largely developed by Labour and Greens and, despite universal support in the House, have decided to hold up the policy becoming law in this term, instead, deciding to use their support for the bill as an election promise for their next term should they be reelected.

The fact that National has refused to allow a vote on a universally supported bill for its own personal benefit should make every NZer take note of who Chris Luxon and his colleagues are in government to serve, and that is themselves.

Good on Chris Hipkins for calling them out on putting their party ahead of the public interest. #NZPol #NeverTrustATory

The word bribe springs to mind.

If you want us to do X which, being in govt, we could deliver immediately but instead of doing what we can now we are going to make you have to vote for us in the hope we will actually deliver on what we are not prepared to do now.

  4. Rather than this #NZPol coalition govt blaming the last Labour govt for the failing NZ economy and austerity they've chosen to impose on NZers doing it tough, Ginny Anderson counters those claims with actual statistics that contradict any argument being made by Nicola Willis and this government to justify the war they are waging on the people of #Aotearoa #NewZealand to support the growing wealth inequality which is a direct result of neoliberal economics.

Who remembers Michael Faye and the ironically named David Richwhite being appointed by the then #NZPol National govt to negotiate BNZ sale and, allegedly, becoming rich listers after using their privileged position to make millions off insider trading? #NeverTrustATory

  6. You know how this #NZPol government keeps claiming they cannot afford to fund health, social services, education, housing, infrastructure, arts and social sciences etc.

I thought I would take a look at how much revenue has been lost to NZ govt coffers (up to year ending 2024) since National PM John Key privatised 49% of NZ's state owned gentailers in 2013-2014 which raised roughly $4.7 billion.

Below is an answer generated by AI which is worth reading.

Cut taxes, reduce government's ability to function

  8. @KimSJ

It's not about "the economy", right wingers and their oligarch backers *want* a poor, sick, desperate working class.

More deaths, like fewer services, means they take what they can get without resistance. It's a return to Dickensian times.

  9. @Walrus @Eceni

    Nailed it!

The go-to policy of conservative politics is asset stripping and corporate handouts to their donors and allies.

  10. Worth noting that Sterling is up against the US Dollar and Euro. So, markets are scared by this #UKBudget

(Unlike the Truss budget that tanked the UK bond market. A reminder to #NeverTrustATory )

  11. I just got advice from my power company prices are increasing...

Between May 2013 and April 2014 #NZPol National Party under John Key privatises 49% of NZ's state owned electricity gentailers despite majority of public opposing the sale.

  12. This is what 15 years of deregulation, "light touch regulation" and understaffing regulators gets you.

A system easily overwhelmed or tampered with.
