Racism isn’t an inherent trait in humans. It’s a learned behaviour, culturally embedded from emotional fragility and fear of ‘Others’ (those unlike oneself). From my view, the fight against #racism is an educational issue, both formal (schooling) and informal (home life). Public social campaigns on what passes for main stream media would go a long way to fight this — for anyone who remembers the success of the road litters campaign: ‘Don’t be a tosser…’The problem is that #Australian racism is too often ‘normalised’ and too easily dismissed as an historical artefact that characterises ockerism. It needs to be called out for what it is, by all of us when we see/hear/read it. It’s our job. The job of all who live on this borrowed land.

Pity most Australians citizens do not know them and regularly disreguard those values… yet we demand adherence to these precepts as a prerequisite to immigration… hmmmmmMoreover, it smacks of post-colonial nationalism without reflecting our much older original history and culture. If I’d take a guess, those values would have been produced when the LNP were in govt, No?

equality of opportunity for all people, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, race, or national or ethnic origin;
a ‘fair go’ for all that embraces:
mutual respect;
tolerance;
compassion for those in need;
equality of opportunity for all;
the English language as the national language, and as an important unifying element of Australian society.
I undertake to conduct myself in accordance with these values of Australian society during my stay in Australia and to obey the laws of Australia. -
