My second jigsaw of 2026. This one is of Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Bavaria, Germany. I enjoyed this one in part because of its slightly unusual shape but also we have been there. I was 20 years and I remember very little of the visit other than the touristy horse and cart ride we took from the carpark up the pathway to the castle. The whole way the two horses "passed wind" like a pair of trumpets. We were in near hysterics, but the cart driver, a typical older Bavarian man in lederhosen, didn't crack a smile or say a word. I guess he had heard it all before!

Neuschwanstein und andere Schlösser ins Weltkulturerbe aufgenommen
Das Schloss Neuschwanstein wird ins Weltkulturerbe aufgenommen. Das hat die zuständige UNESCO-Kommission in Paris entschieden. Auch drei weitere Schlösser in Bayern werden dem Welterbe-Verzeichnis hinzugefügt.

Seien wir mal ehrlich. Vernünftig betrachtet ist dieses Zuckerperlen-Kitschpalais #Neuschwanstein doch eines der größten architektonischen Verbrechen, das je in eine malerische Berglandschaft gepflanzt wurde.

#Neuschwanstein and #Hohenschwangau are awesome. As promised, they are the castliest of castles. Notably, both were electrified! Hohenschwangau, in fact, had an **electrically powered** elevator installed in 1905 by Prince Regent Liutpold, who was wheelchair-bound in his waning years.
I was also expecting some neat hikes with great views, as well as some good food and beer, and Bavaria delivered on all counts. What I was not expecting was that Fussen, the nearby town and my base of operations, also had a really charming old town that would have been awesome to explore with more time!
Also I [un]fortunately did not get to the Fussen old town before one particular souvenir shop closed, and my train left early the next morning, before the shop re-opened. For better (or worse?) this stopped me from making a ... purchase of dubious intelligence.
Today was probably the most complicated travel arrangement of this entire trip: A regional train, DB international train, and a long distance SBB train, all in near lock-step to get to my next stop: #Lausanne.
Once enroute... I was not expecting the SBB train to be the weak link in this chain. It's possible the heat wave is messing with their equipment. Fortunately Switzerland is not lacking in alternative train options... and I arrived with only a 2 hour delay.
Once here... I made a fantastic discovery: #HolyCowBurgers still exists in #Lausanne. Prices have gone up a smidge since I was last there ~14 years ago (the student special used to be ~10 CHF, now it's up to 16), but it brought back memories!
