  1. Brain Rot and Your IQ: What Science Actually Says About Screen Time, Social Media, and Intelligence

Henry David Thoreau coined “brain rot” in 1854 in Walden, writing about society’s preference for simple ideas over complex thought. The complaint maps remarkably well onto algorithmic content feeds 170 years later.

  2. Is Gen Z Getting Dumber? What the IQ Data Actually Shows About the First Generation to Score Lower Than Their Parents

The Gen Z IQ story is not a story about a broken generation. It is a story about what happens when environments change faster than our understanding of what those environments are doing to cognition.

  3. This is likely the most influential interview (30m) that you will hear in your life.
    Alex is a #physics and #neuroscientist professor.
As far from #woowoo as you can get...

He rationally critiques the ossified #materialistic #science and offers an opportunity for humans to expand its myopic and destructive obsession with a very narrow perspectives if the hard problem of #consciousness

He touches on #AI and the toxic ideology of #broligarchy , #transhumanism

  5. RE: fediscience.org/@rmgrieves/115

The amazing #Neuroscientist Roddy Grieves has finally joined us on Mastodon / Fedi!

Roddy does really cool research on rats navigating in 3D and the coding of boundaries in our memory. He will be very interested in following any neuroethologists, neuroscientists, or anyone interested in animal behaviour... But most importantly, he loves photography!

  6. ✨ Consciousness – the government spokesperson 📢 of our brain 🧠

In our #Zoomposium, #neuroscientist #GerhardRoth describes #consciousness as a kind of government spokesperson: it interprets and legitimizes #actions whose actual reasons lie in unconscious neural processes – processes to which we have no direct access.

  7. I am not a #neuroscientist, but what if hard work studying actually helps synapses connect, and what if using LLMs is only a fraction of that?

    Any #neuroscience folks around?

  8. @Swede1952

    Cool Story.

Have a look at the work of Professor Donald Hoffman a #neuroscientist.

He has a theory that humans evolved their senses to only pick up and process sensory data that immediately aids survival.

Considering this, humans are functionally blind, we only pick up about 0.3% of the EM spectrum, not to mention any pan-dimensional shenanigans.

TLDR; Shits real yo, we can't see it tho.

  9. Happy birthday to #neuroscientist Hendrik Van der Loos (1929-1993) shown in my #linocut with his discovery (along with medical student Thomas Woolsey), of the barrel cortex, along with the mouse head & whiskers linked directly to it.

Some species of rodents have a region of the somatosensory cortex that was named the #barrelcortex after its shape, and which contains the barrel field. 🧵

In her new book, “The #Ideological Brain,” the #neuroscientist Leor Zmigrod outlines what makes some people prone to rigid #thinking.

  13. On 7 March, the Netherlands Women’s Health Research & Innovation Center will open at Erasmus MC! 🎉

I’m honoured to be speaking alongside neuroscientist Stéphanie Dijkhuizen, where we’ll introduce the SCANNER project—an initiative tackling 1 of the most critical questions in autism research:

✨ (why) are there more men than women with autism? ✨
