Happy birthday to #neurologist Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852 - 1934), here in front of Purkinje and granule cells from a pigeon, based on one of his own drawings! Cajal &Golgi won the Nobel in 1906, “in recognition of their work on the structure of the nervous system”. He was as much of an artist as he was a scientist & his 100s of drawings are still used for teaching purposes.

Today is my #memoir's 4th birthday. It wasn't until I wrote the preface that I realized writing the #book was my way of sitting #shiva & saying #kaddish for my father who died of early-onset #Alzheimer's. Dr. Bruce Miller, #neurologist @ #UCSF, sat shiva w/me. I will be eternally grateful.
Acknowledging that I'll never recover from how my father died has strangely liberated me to remember him (w/ and w/o the disease- I had forgotten the latter) & help others.

I learned from a video my friend @jammcq sent me (https://www.facebook.com/share/v/16ycMqFSBe/?mibextid=wwXIfr #DrRachelBarr) that there are things they can do for you, possibly, if you have #Parkinsons (The video isn't about Parkinson's. It's just mentioned.) One of the possible treatments is #LDopa.
Evidence points to me having medication-induced Parkinson's (I'm not an expert, so this is not a diagnosis). Possibly related symptoms include shaking hands, poor balance (some related falling), a few other things. The shaking hands is very annoying. Worse for me, even, than the balance issues. The shaking absolutely affects my typing, especially typing passwords; and interferes greatly with other activities that are important to me. I don't drink (especially since being on a GLP1), but I'm kinda terrified of being pulled over and given a field-sobriety test (Probably unrealistic as I haven't been pulled over in decades).
Months ago I scheduled an appointment for myself with a (new to me) #Neurologist. That appointment is finally coming up. Hopefully I will have more answers then. Boy it would be fantastic if my hands stopped shaking.

I remember when I studied neurology for a year to write the #memoir, with Dr. Bruce Miller, about my dad's early-onset Alzheimer's, a #neurologist said that sleep is when the brain takes out the garbage that accumulates during the day. My father had terrible problems with #sleep and it was a harbinger of something very wrong. If you are having sleep difficulties, they may mean you need a CPAP; it may mean something else. But don't ignore it.
