@Photo55 You're right, but it probably won't surprise you that I try to vacuum the carpet and websearch the internet. As the unofficial motto of so many scientific trades goes: "you don't have to be autistic to work here, but it helps". 🤪
And yet I use eponymous words like "quisling" and "boycot" (and indeed I admire the Norwegians and the Irish for consigning those of whom they disapproved so enduringly to villainy), so I'm sure there will be commercially derived words that I use - just as you describe - but I am ignorant of their etymology.

So, one of my guilty pleasures is watching the TV show #HighPotential, which is based on another show (#HPI). #KaitlinOlson (who in real-life is married to #ND #RobMacElhenney) portrays "Morgan," who has an IQ of 160 and notices EVERYTHING! After she oversteps her position as a cleaner, Morgan is hired on as a police consultant -- where she helps to solve murders. Season 2 airs tonight on ABC, and Season 1 is available on Hulu...
Kaitlin Olson Listed A Whole Bunch Of Things She Wants High Potential Season 2 To Dive Into, And There's One I Really Hope They Focus On
By Megan Behnke published June 20, 2025
Excerpt: "Olson also mentioned she wanted to highlight Morgan's #neurodivergent brain, coming to terms with the 'gift' she may or may not have and how lonely she feels because of it. Plus, we also want to know more about everything else going on with Ava's dad, Morgan's relationships with her kids and more.
"It's hard to tell what exactly will happen in Season 2, but it sounds like Olson has more than a few ideas that will more than likely come to fruition. High Potential is keeping viewers on the edge of their seats, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the same thing is done with Season 2. Fans will just have to wait and see what the show digs into. In the meantime, the first season is available to stream with a Hulu subscription."

Dots Out of Line: On #Neuroatypical Curiosity
Educators should ask not who is curious, but how is each person curious?
MIT Press Reader
by Perry ZurnDani S. Bassett, December 2022
Excerpt: "Born in 1992 and diagnosed with autism of a 'severe' and 'nonverbal' type, #NaokiHigashida attended a number of educational institutions in the course of his youth, including a neurotypically centered primary school, a special needs junior high, and a distance learning high school. Observing the many ways in which people with disabilities are fast-tracked out of normal life and shuttled into special needs circles (and low-wage jobs, if they are lucky), Higashida, the author of dozens of poems, short stories, and nonfiction books, wanted to make his own choice. After 'questioning things' for himself, and identifying his gifts and hopes, he decided to become a writer.
"While in school, he had become increasingly frustrated with the steady infantilization and 'schoolmaster-type instruction' that denied his creativity and squashed his curiosity. Indeed, scientists and educators alike repeatedly characterize people with autism as lacking any measurable — and therefore meaningful — curiosity. Resisting this narrative in his writing and activism, Higashida repeatedly asserts his own curiosity: 'I’m always hungry to learn,' 'hungry for knowledge,' he writes in his bestselling memoir 'The Reason I Jump'; 'I want to grow up learning a million things!' Other autistic people, he says, are much like him in this respect, 'constantly challenging and asking questions of themselves.' This should be no real surprise, he writes in a poem called 'Curiosity,' given that curiosity is fundamentally human; it 'is why we carry on.' "

So #neuroatypical people now need a translator to communicate with others?
Perhaps it would be easier if we just accepted each other as we are. Neurotypicals would not assume bad intentions and overinterpret messages. That would help a lot. -

I wrote this today, and figure my fellow neural ‘atypicals’ out there might be able to relate. I only noticed in retrospect it might pass as poor man’s poetry…
Today (It Is Always Today)
Today I heard that voice in my head ask (yet again): is it too late? Can you pull this life of yours out of the fire?

Because the search for talent is a key issue for any company. The use of algorithms in this quest plays a key role.

Muse™ highlights how #algorithms can help decision-makers and recruiters find the right people. And how algorithms can help find “rare pearls” among #neuroatypical. After all, a linear #CV is not necessarily a guarantee of finding the right person for the #job

If you’re bright and you ever doubt yourself or your ways (almost all bright people do), contemplate this list of intellects and contributors who were all self-taught.
If you never have doubts, absorb their material.

Wow. I've recently been introduced to the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, and boy do I feel seen. Also, fantastic storytelling. #neuroatypical #scifi #adventure

Seems like introduction posts are the way to find one's people around here, though my introvert side has been procrastinating. It's one thing to talk about yourself when meeting new folks directly - we ADHD folk are often TOO good at that. But, to just blast a "THIS IS ME COME BE MY FRIEND" with a pile of hashtags relevant to my interests seems a bit...thirsty. But...ok, "When in Rome, etc"
My favorite things about the bird site were connecting with other neurodivergent / neuroatypical folks, getting book recommendations in scifi, fantasy, mystery, history, historicalfiction, ecology, science, and really anything else good. I like to read. I also loved seeing quality fanart come down my feed, poetry, and any other creative expressions from the non-famous, but crazy-talented masses putting themselves out there.I have a couple of great kids, and a lovely husband about whom I don't share details in public forums. I try to get out into nature, particularly forests here in Eugene, Oregon, as much as possible. I'm trailrunning, slowly, and I have a dog companion who wishes I were faster. I love singing, and I play the ukulele (badly, but I'm getting better). I also have curlyhair, and the internet has been a lifesaver for that, so maybe that's a thing here too? Also baking, cooking, cake, hygge, mindfulness meditation, and more kinds of music than I can list in here (but ska might be my favorite, today at least).
I'm an LGBTQI ally, antiracist, progressive, feminist, atheist, and I give freemomhugs. I sometimes get things wrong, but I'm listening and learning. I can't stand a bully.
I am likely to get really excited and infodump if you ask me about Salesforce, Shakespeare, foxes, embroidery, The Stormlight Archive, or Muppets.
Whew! That's a lot! I'm kinda a lot some times, but so are most of my favorite people. Hi, Mastodon!
*Edit* I've heard that in-text hashtags can make reading posts a nightmare for those who listen to the internet rather than read with eyes. Accessibility is a good thing, so I moved all my hashtags down to the bottom.
