  2. People might not reasise just how much the "American Dream", I.E, American capitalism, has for decades made it extremely difficult for the rest of the Western world to create quality TV and movies.
This has been made worse over the last few years, since it has become ever more expensive to produce in the US, and much American TV and film has now moved into European countries to film - the "American Dream" yet again eating into everyone else's economies to prop it up.
As a result, this has driven up the costs tremendously of producing TV and Film here in the UK and Ireland. It doesn't create jobs or wealth, because of all the corner cutting cost reduction practices commonly used by American companies, and because of the American ownership of assets.
As a consequence, it has now about killed off the British film industry. Even our majour TV channels can no longer produce quality dramas etc, without American money.
But American investors require being able to sell those products back to Americans to make profits. So that film and TV, even if made by British writers and actors, has to be "Americanized", stealing even more of our culture away from us.
Netflix is one of the biggest culprits of all of this, and this merger is going to be another big nail in the coffin for British film, television, and local cultures being represented on the screen.
Thousands of jobs are expected to be lost here in the UK, and British production companies are expected to go into bankruptcy.
