  1. The Wren babies hatched on June 16, and they are doing really well. The parents are constantly feeding them, and I always find it interesting to see what they bring - I see spiders, ticks, moths, ants and larvae - and also what a teeny tiny baby bird can stomach. And result in full diapers instantly, which the parents dutifully remove. It is also funny that all baby birds look alike at this stage. Eyes are open today! #nestwatch

I am livestreaming this camera on my YT channel too.

  3. The Wren babies started hatching last night, and then this cute scene happened. The male came over with a snack, and he would not give it to the female, he wanted to feed them himself. These birds can be tiny tyrants but they are also super adorable at times. I only did minor edits here because it is kind of sweet to see him taking so much time when outside they are the quickest, sneakiest little things. #nestwatch #birds #nature youtube.com/shorts/8vQi50mlcLQ (I cannot upload videos of a certain size but cannot always cut them down to a minute duration.)

  5. House Wrens build their nests with lots and lots of sticks, which is why I also call them puppies 😆They can fill a space in no time and also make mock nests in surrounding spots to keep territory. They will also peck and toss eggs and tiny nestlings in nearby boxes, which is why Wren guards are good for active nests of others. They are a native bird and adorable, so it is fun to watch them do their thing. She has about 4 eggs so far. (I also added an entrance hole restrictor.) #nestwatch

  7. And a look into the nestboxes right now. A House Wren has started building a nest two days ago in the 2-holed box and is spending the night in the box, and the Chickadee is sitting on her 12 eggs. It is curious that she has not buried the first batch, she has them all spread out and is incubating them all. Crazy but we will see what happens. Nighty! #nestwatch

  9. Another update on the Chickadee nest. Things are a bit unusual in that the female stopped incubating last week and brought in more fluff. I thought maybe she started over, and... She seems to incubate again, and it looks like she is sitting on 12 eggs now, old and new. I will let her be but I hope something good comes out of this. #nestwatch

  11. Well, I discovered where the #Catbirds are nesting -- in the Rhododendron bush in front of the house (I accidentally disturbed the nest and got scolded). When I was inside the house, I peeked at the nest from behind a curtain. No eggs or nestlings yet. But I'll keep my eyes and ears out for baby catbirds, since Catty-Kay and Cat-King-Cole have paired up!

  13. A little update on Momma Chickadee - she is still incubating her eggs, keeping them evenly warm and turning them every so often. This morning, she got spooked by a Robin that must have sat on the box, and now we know there are actually seven eggs! The male brings her snackies, so all is well. I have added her to the livestream on my YT channel today, if you want to check on her. #nestwatch

  15. Madame Chickadee has built such a big cozy nest that it is hard to see what is going on in there, but this morning, she revealed at least three, maybe four eggs ☺️ She is not on maternity leave yet, laying an egg per day and covering them with fuzz when she leaves. Once her clutch is complete, she will start incubating, and then it will be more clear how many there are. #nestwatch

  17. And with that, nesting season has officially begun here. It did two days ago, on the exact same date as the last time in '23, April 14. I am super duper happy that they chose this box and hope that everything goes well. This little lady has a lot of work ahead of her with that big box. Things have been a bit slow, I think because of the rain, but I put some dry moss out for her and hopefully the weather improves. We may see baby Chickadees again ❤️ #nestwatch

  21. The footage is a bit muddy but here is an update on the House Wren nest. The four babies are one week old and doing very good. The parents feed them constantly, and the female is preening them a lot (there may be mites in the nest). Here you see why two holes can be good for a nestbox - no traffic jams for the parents! It is kind of nice to have a nest this late in the season. #nestwatch

  23. In other nesting news, Wrennifer has now settled and laid three eggs as of this morning. Her guy was hard at work for a whole month until she finally decided to go for it and added her embellishments. I call the House Wrens puppies because they are so obsessed with sticks 😆 I hope the weather remains friendly so that they have a safe brood. #birds #nestwatch

  25. The Bluebird babies hatched on June 12 and 13, and on June 29 and 30, they fledged. The nesting process was pretty flawless with two very dedicated parents and good amounts of insects in the yard. The heat was a bit excessive at times but thankfully not so for the entire nesting. The world has four more Bluebirds in it, who will now learn how to survive in the wild and hopefully return to my yard soon, and maybe they will do another brood.

This video is edited, with some sections sped up. I kind of wanted to show the whole process of fledging. It can take quite a bit, as some of you who followed it on Youtube live have seen. (This is the short video, a longer one is on my other socials and Youtube.)

Good luck out there, babies 💙 #birds #nestwatch

  27. The babies are back live on my YouTube channel again, and we are kind of on fledge watch now. They will start calling the parents and listen to them answer to gain the courage to make it out of the box and into the world. I hope the stream stays stable. #birds #nestwatch

  29. I put the babies back on my youtube livestream. The stream pauses every so often but you can still see how great they look and what they get fed. After they fledge, I will work to improve this stream, I may need a better WiFi extender. Enjoy :) #birds #nestwatch

  33. Momma Bluebird has been guarding her nest and even spent the night last night, and I thought she was done laying but she added another egg to the clutch today. I think she may do a fifth tomorrow because she is not brooding yet. I decided to name them Dougie and Janey 🤓 #nestwatch

  35. The Northern Mockingbird pair are mostly absent from their nest. I guess the ambient temperature is warm enough that they don’t feel the need to lay on the eggs?

  37. Our (male?) Northern Mockingbird is still actively inspecting and improving the nest in our grapes just outside our glass slider door. I think they’ve partnered up so perhaps the nest will be fully occupied soon! #NestWatch #NorthernMockingbird #Birds #BirdPhotography #Yarden #Fujifilm

  41. Somebody has been busy over the course of the last day. 😯
Still don't know what that red fiber is. It was also used in the former nest.

  42. A little update on the House Wren nest. The female has sat on her six eggs for a while now, and this morning, they started to hatch. The male is there to help. So far, two eggs are still there. The babies are tiny! The Bluebirds have not made another nest here but the female comes for mealworms, so they may be nesting nearby. #goodvibes #nature #nestwatch #Ostdrossel

  44. There's activity in the nestbox that the Chickadees used. I'll allow it, and I am also hoping the Wrens will not pester the Bluebirds in the other box, should they decide to nest again too. #birds #BirdsOfMastodon #nestwatch #birdwatching #nature #Ostdrossel tumblr.com/ostdrossel/75340396

  46. The #Bluebird babies fledged yesterday! It was a swift affair, they all pretty much went at the same time. I had some camera issues so I didn't post a lot of them, but I am very happy with how healthy and strong they looked. Hopefully, the family starts another attempt.

  48. After some good breakfast and wing practice, the first Robin baby has left the nest an hour ago. Robins cannot fly properly when they fledge, so the young ones follow the parents around by foot for a couple of days, learning how to feed and survive. #birds #birdsofMastdodon #nestwatch #nature #Ostdrossel

  49. The #Chickadee babies are 6 and 5 days old, and have grown a lot (even if that's barely visible). I am happy that all of them are alive. Both parents deliver a steady stream of insects, and mom is keeping them warm.

  50. A day to celebrate - Madame Bluebird has laid her first egg this morning. After the strange BB season last year, I am thrilled to see this happen. I added the wren guard now as well, and both male and female have been back in the box since then. The Chickadees are also doing well with their 7 eggs.

  51. The #Bluebird just started her nest but is already almost done. Today, she added a little "blanket". I'll add a wren guard here once the first egg is laid, which I expect tomorrow or Monday, and then hope for the best. I edited little to show her process. Enjoy. #birds #birdsofMastodon #nestwatch #Ostdrossel
