The lower pitchers of #Nepenthes vogelii are more or less cylindrical from top to bottom. I don’t have any examples of uppers right now, but I look forward to seeing those infundibular insect traps someday!

Since I setup a #tarpit (using #nepenthes) about 3 days ago, the server has been hit more than 1 million times by the likes of #OpenAI and #Meta. Apart from the usual parasitic crawlers.
This only proves, how unethical the whole industry is.

As an experiment, today I setup an instance of #Nepenthes in a #VPS.
It is a poisoning #tarpit intended for crawlers that scrape data for #LLMs. It will generate endless linked pages with randomly generated content.
Interestingly, just minutes after deployment, the #OpenAI crawler showed up. Since then, it has been happily eating all the crap thrown at it.
I know this is a tiny effort against one of the most toxic industries in history, but I love the feeling of fighting back even if it is almost symbolic.

#Nepenthes truncata has been an easy indoor species in my conditions. This is a seed grown individual that regularly produces large, colorful pitchers. Still not sure where it’s going to go when it reaches full size! 🙃

I’m always posting my little #CarnivorousPlants corner - but my wife picked out a super baby #Nepenthes #Ventrata about two months ago, and it has tripled in size! Little dude is putting out a pitcher every two weeks

The other day when watering my little nepenthes "Gaya" (a small carniverous pitcher plant), I looked under one leaf to discover not one, not two, but THREE new baby Gayas having started growing on their own! The babies already have two tiny well formed pitchers, plus two more pitchers beginning to form. Very exciting!
The babies and their tiny pitchers are amazing because they are perfect miniatures of the adult plant.
