The Cove at Stanton Drew formed by 3 stones can be found in the beer garden of the Druid's Arms. Folklore states that the stones represent a Parson, bride & groom frozen on their wedding day. They were turned to stone by the Devil as their guests danced on a Sunday. #TombTuesday - Grey Mare and Her Colts longbarrow near #Abbotsbury #Dorset in September 2010. It's about 3000 years old and 19th Century excavations revealed bones and pottery in the collapsed burial chamber. #Archaeology #NeolithicNovember #Archaeodon

Wayland's Smithy on Oxfordshire Ridgeway is a Neolithic Chambered Long Barrow once believed to have been home of Wayland Saxon God of metalworking. #Archaeological investigations indicate that 14 People were interred in an earlier structure between 3590 & 3550BC before larger barrow was constructed around 3460BC as seen today (recent reconstruction asides following excavation in 1960s) #TombTuesday #NeolithicNovember #Archaeodon #folklore

A vist to Knowlton #Neolithic henge in #Dorset with later #medieval church symbolising a visual transition from pagan to Christian worship. The church was built in 12th century & was in use until 17th century, serving a now vanished hamlet by riverside. Its construction helped protect henge dating between 3000 to 2000 BC from plough damage. The surrounding earthworks were less fortunate, but are visible in aerial photographs. A perfect #archaeology mashup for #MedievalMonday & #NeolithicNovember

In the meantime, let's get back to #NeolithicNovember, and let me offer you this from the #PortableAntiquitiesScheme database, this beautiful, polished stone axehead - the blade edge really stands out here. This was found up north beyond Abergele, about as far north as you can go in terms of mainland #Wales.

As photos seem to be uploading now here's a late post for #TombTuesday during #NeolithicNovember. The Longstone at Mottistone on #IsleofWight cared for by #NationalTrust. The stones are generally thought to be remnants of a chambered long barrow.. The standing Stone is a giant of over 4m. It's called Arthur's Stone as local legend is that it was the spot where King Arthur fought a giant.
It's apparently never been fully excavated so not loads of real info.

Opening up with this cracker from Beddgelert, a polished mace head, c2800-2100BC, with one interpretation pitching the possibility that this was reworked from an earlier axe - pretty cool if that was the story here.
