[cont'd] Ynet is citing "sources" claiming efforts between Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Congress, emboldened by stern statements from President Biden and Secretary Blinken, to rapidly advance bipartisan "lightning" legislation that would impose sanctions on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (#ICC) in The Hague, Karim Khan, and others involved in the investigation into Israel's activities in Gaza.
The proposed sanctions reportedly include bans on entry to the U.S., closure of bank accounts, and the consideration of extending these punitive measures to even family members of those targeted [surely not a veiled threat considering Amal Clooney is on the list).
According to Ynet's sources, the U.S. is seeking to deter the ICC from issuing arrest warrants against Israeli officials through this expedited legislation, hence the urgency to approve it soon. However, "there are concerns" that the legislation could stall due to "unrelated political considerations in Congress."
