Why is this still an issue on #Element :))
It's been a thing for mooooonths (or a year?) despite not being an issue before, and I'm not sure if it's to do with Element or #KDE/#Kwallet (or something else entirely i.e. #Flatpak). The last time I had an issue relating to Kwallet was with #VSCode and even that required some weird workaround (IIRC, lying that we're using #GNOME 's keychain or smtg like that).
I've been using #NeoChat but I swear Element's the best #Matrix client and I miss having it.
---
edit: omfg, a workaround was found apparently since I last looked into this a ~year ago. Addingorg.kde.kwalletd6to its 'Session Bus' list (i.e. through #Flatseal) works! I can happily use Element again!!! 🥳

Curioso que el desarrollo de Neo Chat parece mucho más avanzado que el de Kaidan, cuando creo recordar que ambos proyectos salieron más o menos a la vez, pero claro el de Kaidan parece que sea solo una persona el que lo lleva

#matrix app options on #kde atm kinda sucks. #element is the best, but it's now among a number of apps that don't (properly) support kde wallet/#kwallet so that's a no for a while now, which is a shame cos it's worked fine before. #nheko has been recommended, and it's pretty nice despite some rough edges, but it is honestly not that hard to come across several bugs that make it unusable. kde's own matrix app (forgot the name #neochat) is pretty rough on the edges too, a bit basic looking, but def a lot less buggy than nheko - it has some bugs of its own tho like 'quote' messages not working properly, at least when the quoted/replied message has a photo (it shows a thumbnail of the correct image, but opening it up shows a totally diff pic - for instance). all in all, ur best option is element's web app, but for a chat app u wish to use daily for a lot, it's kinda jank to always be looking for ur browser window/tab. the element app on other platforms like #ios and #macos just works tho so dats a fallback, if u use those.

Switched from #schildichat to #neochat on my computer today.
Honestly the KDE UI looks so good in NeoChat :kdenew:
Sometimes using a native app after using electron app for a while just feels so refreshing lol

I can't answer the first, but for the latter, IRC is still wonderful, but if you want encryption, you might look into XMPP or Matrix, if you haven't tried those.
There are some pretty lightweight matrix servers you can self-host, if you're wanting to, and there are some great lightweight GUI clients like #FluffyChat, #NeoChat, and #Nheko, and at least one really good TUI client, #iamb.
But I honestly feel like #XMPP is the under-utilized option.

Currently I'm running "20221123-0638-postmarketOS-v22.06-phosh-18-purism-librem5-installer.img.xz" -- "megapixels-purism" wasn't working and other than that I'm systematically going through packages to see what is available and workingWhen using a USB Dock and mouse opening apps and getting around is surprisingly quick.
I'm building a list of my favorite packages so I can pmbootatrap my own install image if possible eventually.
So far I much prefer #postmarketos to #pureos -- I am looking forward to trying #gnome for #librem5 #linuxphone too.
Some apps are broken like Gnome Maps, Pure Maps, Gnome Weather and a few "out of bounds" for the screen size in portrait mode. I am not sure if postmarketos needs to update them or what.
#lollypop for music works great. #portfolioand #nautilus for file browsing have improved since I tried them on #pinephone. #giara isn't yet working maybe I need a new version. Also ive yet to setup #tootle. #geary is bitter sweet, it is adequate for email but was hard to setup until I used a mouse. I love #gnomecalculator and #gedit for mobile has grown on me.
I was having trouble setting up #nextcloud -client but maybe when I try again it will work. #nextcloud in #gnomesettings worked fine and populated my contacts just fine.
I wasn't able to get Gnome Calendar working. #firefox -esr worked better than #epiphany but I need epiphany for webapps on the app screen for sites like https://windy.com and https://web.pulse point.org
I'm using #starship console just fine. #pavucontrol
#gnomeclocks is great! #pidgin not so much #rhythmbox not so much as it goes out of bounds.
I've also still yet to find a good video player, a equiv for youtube/newpipe and I have to give gnome-sound-recorder another try for audio note taking.
All in all it has come a long way from my initial research via PinePhone PMOS.
I love that there are also terminal apps like #bashtop too -- I wouldn't even mind having some .desktop launchers in the App Menu to load full screen versions of those and #htop -- certainly there's room for #neofetch ricers to make some cool #unixporn rices -- its going to be an interesting year for the linux phone space for sure -- so glad I finally have a #librem5 to poke around and do some research.
The big setback for me right now is figuring out a good #element client for #matrix -- I tried #neochat but it isn't fetching decryption keys -- #fractal froze -- I have to spend more time poking around.
And then of course as indicated by #purism "most wanted apps" on their website a #signal app of some sort or android version of it on the phone would be really important as SMS and MMS are not really reliable or robust.
More poking to do, thanks for the info about 22.12 -- installing pmos with the wiki was fairly straight foreward, slightly rough around the edges but not even close to hard mode in the #linux world.

Bisher:
#Element und #Schildichat starten nicht.
#Fluffychat macht einen guten Job
#Fractal sieht auch gut aus
#Nheko macht auch bisher keine Probleme
#NeoChat will wieder nicht
#Syphon dagegen läuft 💪Das bedeutet NICHT dass die Clients sicher mit torsocks nutzbar sind - ich habe nur getestet ob sie sich starten lassen und ein einloggen möglich ist.
