“Ever heard of the Savannah Bananas? They're a baseball team with millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram — known as much for their dance routines and shenanigans as their actual baseball. Now their league, Banana Ball, has resurrected the Indianapolis Clowns, a Negro League team with a contentious history of racial minstrelsy. We chop it up with journalist Josh Levin, who followed the Clowns through their Banana Ball debut.” #Baseball #race #NegroLeague #Minstrelsy

80 Years Ago, A Jewish Radical and Two Negro League Stars Led a Crusade to Integrate #Baseball That Paved the Way for Jackie Robinson
The little known story about Sam Nahem, Leon Day, and Willard Brown who in 1945 played on a field in the shadow of Adolph Hitler's Nazi Germany and broke down historic barriers.

Sep 07, 2025...on September 8, 1945—a little-known episode in the struggle to challenge racial segregation took place in, of all places, Germany’s Nuremberg Stadium, where Adolf Hitler had addressed Nazi rallies. It was led by Sam Nahem, a left-wing #Jewish pitcher who had a brief career in the major leagues, and included two #NegroLeague stars, who, like other [#Blacks], were banned from major league teams.
Their efforts were part of the wider “Double Victory” campaign during the war to beat fascism overseas and #racism and #antiSemitism at home.

The #Giants lost again, this time to the #Cards 5-6 at the #NegroLeague & #WillieMays tribute event at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, AL.
What did we learn from this 5th loss in 7 games?
1) The rookies Ramos (.307), Wisely (.296) & Bailey (.299) are the best hitters on the team. Ramos got a 3 run HR & Bailey was 4 for 5.
2) Giants pitching s*cks -- giving up 3 runs in the 1st, 2 runs in the 3rd & another run in the 5th to give the Cards the lead 3-6 going into the 6th.
3) The Giants hitters can hit, just not when it counts. 🤷♂️
The Giants got 11 hits (4 more than the 7 by the Cards) but left 8 runners on base and only scored 3 out of 8 RISP.
Worst case: The Giants scored 1 run in the top of the 6th with only 1 out to start the inning off but could only score 1 more run after the bases were loaded and there was still only 1 out. 🤦♂️
Same old story and it's the main reason why the Giants are currently 36-40 in 9th place (out of 12) in the Wildcard race. 🤷♂️
Go Giants!🥳

It is positively embarrassing that the #RickwoodFieldGame being broadcast by #Foxsports on #Fox does NOT have ONE black broadcaster or commentator.
All white, it ain't alright
Is this how you memorialize #WillieMays???

# :sfgiantshat: #SFGiants #NegroLeague #MLB #GOAT
#WillieMays who, IMO, was and still is the greatest MLB position player of all time, is supposed to be honored at a Negro League "tribute game" to be held in Birmington, AL (not far from his hometown) in June, 2024.
Willie, who is 92 now, deserves it. I just hope he lives long enough to be there to enjoy the tribute in person.
I just feel privileged to watch him play in his prime at Candlestick Park along with 4 other HOF players (McCovey, Marichal, Cepeda & Perry) when I was just a boy in the 50's & 60's.

Whoa! A Negro League baseball stadium that still exists! And is played in. Near me!
